Chapter 3 – Barbie, Jock, Music and Me
Rebecca was definitely the Barbie of the school. Every day she showed up, covered in make-up, wearing a dress ore skirt that were way to short, and on a pair of heels. How she managed to walk on them the entire day, was a big mystery to me. I could walk on heels, but not an entire day. I would break my feet.
Another point about the Barbie, she got all the cute guys. Ore, populair guys, let’s put it that way. She dated at least all the good looking jock twice. It was kind of pathetic in a way.
When someone pushed me against my arms, I woke up again from my daydream.
‘So, which dream land did you go to this time’ Kelly asked smiling. I shook my head.
‘Nowhere. Just wondering what kind of mind controlling game Barbie is going to pull to get the new guy’. They all laughed.
The rest of the break we talked about a lot of things, while I finished my food.
It didn’t took long before I snoozed of to dreamland again.
As most stories go, Rebecca and I used to be good friends. We lived only a couple of houses away from each other, and weekly slumber party’s were done regularly. Somehow, like others, we grew apart. Rebecca started to hang out more with other girls, and finally made her way up to the top of our schools food chain, Were as I stayed down. I didn’t mind though. By that time I had built a group of close friends around me, and that was enough.
‘Okay, You have got to stop doing that. It’s creeping me out’ Noëll said snapping her fingers in front of me. I grinned.
´Sorry. My way of getting my thoughts in a row. Happens unintentionally’.
Noëll grinned. ‘We know, Jules. Trust me, we know’.
Smiling I threw a few fries at her, landing straight in her hair. A laugh outburst followed.
A few minutes later a loud ring interrupted us. ‘Crap. I’ve got class all the way in the old building’ Kelly almost yelled and speeded off towards the door. Smiling we followed her with our eyes, and then making our way towards class.
Luckily my final two hours of my week were one of the best, Music.
With my bag under my arm I walked into the music class, sitting down near the window. Everyone was already there and the teacher started talking.
‘Ke, well today we are just gonna pick up were we left of yesterday. Try to get the cords under control. In an hour I’m gonna make it a bit harder though’ he said smiling and handed out the sheet music.
‘Julianna can I talk to you for a second?’ he asked when he place the paper in front of me. I nodded and followed him outside.
‘Okay. Well, since you are one of the best guitar players in this class, I wanted to ask you something. There is a new guy coming today, and he is a really good singer, so I was wondering if you were willing to do a duet with him for the final show’.
I was kind of shocked. I knew my guitar playing wasn’t that bad, but hearing someone way it was, nice. I guess.
‘Uhm. Yeah sure. Who is it?’ I asked, curiously this time.
Mr. Condor laughed. ‘Sorry. I can’t tell anything about it. Just be here, Monday at 2’.
I smiled. ‘I have class though at 2’ I noticed. Great. That problem to.
Mr. Condor laughed again. ‘Already taken care of. No need to worry about it. Oh, and by the way. The extra assignment for your final grade is part of the piece you’re doing with him so’.
‘So, to my piece with him, I have to add the extra assignment and that is my final grade?’
Mr. Condor nodded. ‘Yeah’.
I smiled gratefully, and then followed him back into class.
I hoped that the guy was able to keep a note, and wasn’t being pushy about his thoughts. I hate pushy guys. But if he wasn’t, this was going to be a piece of cake.
In the classroom I got my guitar, which I left here yesterday after practicing some more. I almost nailed the whole song, and it made me feel good. I liked playing guitar. Just like listening to music it could take my mind of things, clearing my head, shutting everything out.
After an hour, Mr. Condor called everybody back to the center, to announce his little surprise.
‘Okay. For your final grade, you ofcourse have to nail the piece that you have been studying on for the last few weeks. But’ he started, pausing sneakily.
‘You, have to make a piece of you own. Compose it, write it, play it and add it to the one you know right now. Basically, make the two songs into one’.
Smiling I looked down. I knew exactly what I was going to do. Now I just had to hope that my partner wouldn’t be a total dickhead.
The last hour of music class went fast, and I managed to make a start on the part I had to compose myself. I couldn’t do much to it, being that my partner would get her Monday. Though I didn’t mind a little wait.
When the bell rang, I placed my guitar back in it’s case and swung it over my shoulder.
‘Miss Anderson. 2 o’clock, Monday’. Mr. Condor said smiling. I nodded and then made my way to my locker.
When I finally reached my locker and opened it, I saw all the books that were lying inside. ‘Right, forgot I had to take those with me’ I mumbled to myself, and looked down at the small bag I was carrying. This is gonna be a hell of a ride home.
After stuffing some small books into my guitar case, and another part in my bag, I started to stack them up to carry them. I had no idea how else I could manage to get them all home in one piece, and based on the homework I had to do, I had to take them all with me. Noëll, Kelly and Shauna all had classes so weren’t able to help me. It sucked.
After 5 minutes I had all the books stacked up in my arms, and managed to close the locker door without tipping over. Satisfied I turned around, to head towards the exit when someone bumped into me. All the books fell towards the floor and came down with a big bang.
‘Great. Thanks’ I said angry without looking up.
‘Sorry’ the guy said. His irish accent startled me.
