"My name is Aminat. I didn't always like that name before I knew what it meant and who exactly from the Qur'an had it, now it's one of the things about myself I'm most proud of.

"I hail from Lagos, it's a small but very populous and lively state in Nigeria. I'm a Muslim by faith, My personal relationship with Allah is one that's most important to me and something I don't think I'll ever stop working on.

"I spend most of my time writing, singing or daydreaming, you can always find me wherever lost or wandering minds go.  I'm a strong advocate for equal female rights, because duhh we should all be. and I like cats, because they're cuddly and cute"

A Lost Poem
sounds often grab me by the throat...
they shouldn't make me feel like earth is about to cave in.
earth.
i say her fragile name like we are strangers.
like i haven't hurt her.
do you know someone without hurting them?
such is this existence we are bound to.
some days i am an apology waiting to happen.
some days i am a bird waiting on a plane to pass by.
i imagine it would feel quick and peaceful.
some days i just am.
those days are less confrontational.
less angry.
and boy do i know what anger is.
if i were earth
fragile as she is
i would be seventy percent anger
the rest
hope.
i fear that in the end the seventy will become all of me.
drowning any chance of thirty.
but only YOU know that.
only YOU know everything.
so this love letter is for you
because only you can make better sense of it.
you make better sense of me.
you made me.
that's why i know even when the sounds grab me by the throat
you're the reason i still find a way to breathe.
