Different Perspective: If You Are Here

"I am Charles. I'm Nigerian. Music is my favorite art form. I love listening to podcasts and discussing philosophical stand points with random strangers. Still figuring life out.
Fun fact. I was on local tv for being a French prodigy as a child and I can't even hold a conversation in French as an adult"

I don't know who left who
I don't know if we are still together

See, you were always there growing up
You were the only one my Grandma will let me see
I thought I saw you with the people in the longer scarfs
But my mama said that couldn't be you

The girl we saw had too many blemishes
I was told you only visit houses of people that
visit the addition sign houses on the second day
of the days i don't go to school

When it was time for high school
My mama only chose somewhere
We were sure you were welcomed
That made me excited

But reality has a funny way
Of finding holes in the most solid patches
Or should I say
Vessels

When i was finally free to see others
It didn't matter if you were always there
I realized how good i could multitask
I could see you twice in the mornings
And still see the others when I wanted to
I'm becoming a man
Oh so they said
I didn't know better

That's why i don't respect people that have always walked on paths that were paved for them
No matter how solid the bitumen is

Do you really understand insanity
Until you lose your mind?
You're still a slave if all you know was freedom
How can you criticize those that derailed and crashed
If you do not know what it means to hold the steering wheel

The one time i saw others
I started questioning our relationship
I needed a break but they wouldn't let me live
They said they know for sure
You're the best for me
Even when i haven't decided
They told me the others are not what i need
Just what interest me
They crucified me and my friends for the misguidance of our youth
They ...

I'm done talking about them because
This is about me and you
Nothings been the same since those days
But I still think about you
People say you never stopped doing the same

If you were here, I want to know what to say to you
I'm sure you've heard about where the others took me
And I wonder if you're disgusted or empathize with me
Or somehow feel forgiving
Even though I  think that may not be your place

That's for God to decide

I'm sure it will still be awkward silence
I've become passive about life
And that's mostly because of us

It is what it is -
