"I cannot believe it," Maya blurted out. We were walking down to the cafeteria. I was explaining the whole fiasco that had happened with Cole.
"I mean you're tutoring him? Girl be careful, he's dangerous." She warned me, I rolled my eyes. Okay so maybe Cole was a bit dangerous-like but he probably was a nice person on the inside. He didn't seem like he would want to murder me when I talked to him. Besides, I basically got annoyed with him and he didn't seem to respond badly.
"You know Maya, he might be a nice person," I stated.
Maya shrugged, "maybe. But be careful, I mean he's been to the police station for a load of reasons. I don't think that's a good sign, that's all."
I smiled, "don't worry i'll be careful." We had reached our usually table. Our friend Devryn and Tom were already sitting there.
I never liked Devryn, I mean sure we hung out together but that was just because she was friends with Tommy and Maya. I mean there is always one person you hate in your friend group.
She was kind of a slut and she was a bit fake in my opinion. She always sucked up to the popular girls in our grade.
I've mean, I've tried to like her. I made conversations with her, invited her to my house but I couldn't get myself to like her. And soon enough both of us hated each other.
Tommy on the other hand was a really close friend of mine. He was good looking with his dimples and smooth blonde hair. A lot of people assumed he was gay since he only hung out with girls but he isn't. Its because he is in love with Maya. However since Maya isn't really smart she didn't know.
"Guys, guess what? Riley is tutoring Cole Kingston," Maya announced to the group. They both looked super surprised when they heard this.
"Wait how? Why do you get all the hot guys," Devryn asked. She looked at me oddly while flipping her brown hair. Although she acted as if she was excited for me somewhat, I could see her eyes narrow slightly.Tommy hit her in the arm for being inconsiderate. I mean she was talking about both Cole and my ex.
I shrugged it off, "I don't know?"
Devryn seemed to huff in disappointment due to my lack of response. I guess the only good thing about tutoring Cole was the recommendation and making Devryn angry. Actually, this whole thing was worth it by Devryn's expression. That's how much I didn't like her.
Devryn twirled a strand of her hair with her finger. She pursed her lips, "it doesn't seem like you want to tutor him. Should I ask the principal if I could tutor him instead?" I rolled at my eyes at her desperate attempt to get with Cole.
"Sorry but it's okay," I insisted through a forced smile.
"Yeah," Maya agreed. "I think this would be an excellent experience considering Riley's situation." She glanced over at the table behind us quickly and then turned her attention towards me with a sad smile.
"You don't need to make a big deal about it," I told her. "I don't care anymore, he can do whatever he wants." I mean, it was kind of a lie, but I didn't want my friends to think that I was mopping over him or something.
Maya beamed with pride, "this is why you have this reputation at school. Riley Lucero, the girl who doesn't give a shit, I love it." After me and Daniel broke up, everyone expected me to be all sad. However, they were all wrong. The student body was so surprised to see me laughing with Maya the next morning. That asshole wasn't worth my tears, not even a drop.
