"I used to think that humanity was worth saving, that there were good people in this world. But as time went on, the idea of humanity being perfect slowly slipped away from my mind and was replaced by what it truly was - cruel."

" why are you hesitating "
The radiant lights of morning seeped through the small cracks of the cave, I let out a breath of relief, we had survived the night. Adon and Isaac were slouched over, their mouths agape and they slept like babies.
"They didn't wake us," Piper frowned, "I wonder why not."
"Well tonight we'll take over. We can do the watch," I nudged her shoulder.
"If we're even alive by tonight," she said, a bitter tone in her voice. The mood sunk completely.
We both got up, stretching out our aching muscles and waking up the boys. Adon was a light sleeper, a light tap was enough to wake him up.
"Morning. You never woke us up," I said softly.
"I know," Adon smiled, "I didn't plan on it." I couldn't help but roll my eyes, his words didn't surprise me, he had always been like that. Even at home, he'd give me portions of his food, extra clothes, anything.
"I'm starving," Piper groaned, "Do we have any food?"
I pulled the muddy, blood stained bag that I stole from the boy back at the cornucopia over towards me and peered inside; a flask of water and some rope was all I had.
"Nothing," I sighed, taking a small sip from the flask and passing it around the group.
"I don't have anything either," Isaac said, not bothering to look in his bag thrown into the corner of the cave, "I heard there's a lot more food towards the middle, plants, bugs, all sorts. We can split up and all go forage?" Isaac suggested.
"You heard?" I questioned.
"Oh— no someone didn't tell me. Who would even tell me? I just noticed when I was running around there," he stuttered, trying to make sense of his words.
"Right." Adon said.
"It's our only option," Isaac persisted, eager to get out of the cave.
"Alright then, let's get ready to go." Adon stood up, offering me a hand that I gladly took. He was scared, but I couldn't tell why.
I didn't have anything to take with me except the stubby knife I had, we filed out of the cave and covered up the entrance so our belongings were safe. Piper had even build a strange structure with some rocks beside it to mark the cave.
