" all people are violent "

Adon and I had been wandering for what seemed like hours and hours on end, it was hot - the sun beamed down on us mercilessly. Each step I took physically hurt my head.

"How much longer?" I asked Adon, running a few steps to catch up to him.

"We need water, do you want to live?" He said, "And keep it down, alright?"

"I need rest. Everything hurts," I groaned. It was only early in the afternoon, hours until it would be getting dark.

"What's in the bag?" Adon pointed to the blue, mud-covered backpack resting on my shoulders. I pulled at the zipper, peering inside; it was almost empty. Inside was a small bundle of rope and a clear bag filled with some sort of dried meat.

"Rope and dried meat. No water," I said, disappointed, swinging the bag over my shoulder once again.

"At least we won't starve," Adon said.

I hummed in agreement, watching my shoes as I walked, letting Adon lead the way. He came to an abrupt stop and I crashed straight into him, losing my balance.

"Quiet," he ordered, "Do you hear that?"

We stopped in silence, in the distance the sound of rushing water could be heard. My face lit up with excitement, and so did my brother's. We picked up our pace, jogging through the forest, ducking under branches and dodging bushes, following the sound of rushing water. The further we ventured out, the louder it became.

Through the trees I could see the rushing water in all of its glory, I crouched down behind a thick tree, camouflaging myself in the lower leaves. There was a girl crouching down by the side of the river, leaning in with a flask similar to the one I had in my pocket. Her back was turned, so I couldn't make out who it was.

"I'll take care of this," Adon whispered to me, pulling out his machete and creeping forward.

"No," I grabbed onto his shirt, he looked back at me questioningly, "Let me try."

He nodded hesitantly, handing me the machete and moving out of the way. I steadied my grip of the machete, convincing myself that I could do this.

"What's wrong Ally?" Adon whispered. A name he hadn't called me in a while.

I shook my head in silence, pushing the leaves out of the way and slowly walking towards the girl, who was still busily trying to fill up her flask. I held my breath as I got closer, raising the blade in the air as I crouched down behind her.

I counted down and grabbing her plait, swinging the machete around and holding it to her throat. Enough to hurt but not enough so that I'd slice it completely open.
