As Y/N was escorted down the halls of the palace (more like ruins to be honest) of the king of Jotunheim she wondered what new form of punishment awaited her. "Father only summons me when he decides I haven't been completely miserable for too long." She thought. "I wonder what stick is up his ass today."
As she entered what was meant to be the throne room, she was surprised to see that her father was not alone in the room. As the old man turned to face her, she could see clearly that it was Odin, the king of Asgard. She greeted him with a polite curtsy and then turned to the king of the frost giants. "Father, you summoned me?"
"Yes. For once in your pathetic life you are going to be made useful to me." The harsh words seemed almost surprising to Odin but not to Y/N. She was quite used to the hateful speech her father used with her. "Oh?" she said mundanely. "Pray tell, how am I to be made useful?"
"You should sound more excited to ask that question ungrateful witch! After all, what young girl doesn't dream about getting married?" Y/N worriedly turned to Odin; afraid she was meant to be one of his wives. He read her worried face and calmly explained. "You and my son are to be wed." Y/N's worried look quickly turned to one of confusion. "I'm to marry the god of thunder?" she asked. "No." said Odin rather bluntly. "My, uh, other son." "Ah, I see, and this is the wish of the younger son of Odin?" she asked almost accusingly as she knew very well it could not be. Why in the nine realms would the very same man who tried to destroy Jotunheim suddenly want to marry the princess of it? Especially if he'd never met her.
"Not exactly." Odin replied. "The union is to be a joyful sign of good will and peace to reunite our realms. Only if you accept the offer though," Y/N turned to her father who flashed an evil grin at her as he said "I can't think of a better way to thank him for the great service he's done our family." Y/N suddenly had a flashback about the bloodbath after Loki had killed his birth father Laufey, and how her father rose to the top and became the king of Jotunheim.
"But he hates frost giants, and he clearly hates that he's one of them. For him to be forced to me would surely be torture for him." Her thought stopped abruptly. She chuckled as she suddenly realized the reason for the marriage. "I see clearly now." She said looking Odin in the eyes. "I am to be a punishment or form of torture for the god of mischief. Reminding him of where he comes from." She turned to her father. "and he is to torture me in that same way. All under the illusion of union and peace." "Well look who's not completely stupid." Said her father with a sarcastic slow clap. "Odin you say this will not happen if I do not agree?" said Y/N. Her father glared at her as she spoke. "That is correct. I do not wish any ill will towards you, believe that." He answered. "I thoroughly believe you. I am meant to be a punishment for Loki, but it is my father who wishes me ill will. And I am inclined to believe he has already answered for me." "Indeed, he has." "Then you have your answer. When is the wedding?" "Tomorrow fortnight."
Y/N curtsied before she made her exit and was escorted back to her room. "So, I am the god of mischief's bride to be." She thought to herself. "Ugh, I wish he would've finished what he started. The only thing we will have in common I'm sure is that we both hate who we are." She glanced across her room at her broken mirror that she'd smashed earlier that day.
Y/N hated mirrors, she hated her reflection, it reminded her of who she was... a frost giant. "Well I'll only be half a punishment since I'm a half-breed." she thought to try to comfort herself. "Mom wasn't one of these monsters." It was true Y/N's mother had been a very unlucky Vanir who had been kidnapped by Y/N's father and brought to Jotunheim. He barely kept her alive, as her body was most decidedly not built for the constant frozen temperatures, and forced her to bear him a child demanding a son. However, when she bore a daughter, he was furious and when Y/N was old enough to take care of herself for the most part, her father killed her poor mother in cold blood. He resented his daughter entirely but Y/N's mother knew a little magic and put a protection spell on her at her birth and if she were to die at his hand he would be cursed for the rest of his life.
For Y/N's entire life she was kept just barely alive, that is until the death of Laufey. The moment her father came to power he relented a little of his hatred for her and she was allowed to live like one of the servant's which, for Y/N, was a major improvement. Her father knew, however, that she hated her frost giant side and made sure she was reminded of it constantly.
A small knock on the door stirred Y/N from her thoughts. "Come in." A servant girl walked in carrying a large basket and smiled at her. "I just heard the good news Y/N!" she said happily. "Good news? Ingrid I'm marrying a stranger. A stranger that has tried to destroy Jotunheim and everyone who lives here." "Yes, that's a bit of a downside, but you'll finally be away from your father!" "Oh Ingrid, why else would I have accepted Odin's offer?" They both laughed and Y/N inquired after the contents of Ingrid's basket.
"Well, we only have a fortnight to sew you a wedding dress fit for a princess!" "My father approved that?" "He doesn't need to know it exists until the big day. Now then let's get started!"
