Male!Reader x Arthur Fleck

Tears streamed down a man's face as he sat in the living room of his home.

Too much information was spiraling in his head.

He had lost his job.

Been lied on by a co-worker.

The government took away his therapist and his medication.

His mother had said his father was Thomas Wayne.

Which he soon learned was a lie, after being beat up by his alleged father.

He didn't believe him at first.

But after digging in his mother's medical files, he had quickly learned that the woman was extremely delusional and just as insane as him.

If not more.

However, she wasn't a threat to society anymore.

But she remained a threat to him.

The poor man had given up everything, only to come second best to a man who didn't give a fuck about them.

Thomas Wayne didn't care then and he sure didn't care now.

He had a kid and a wife to look after.

Thin lips pulled in another cloud of smoke before parting to release it.

His mother was currently in the hospital recovering from a stroke and he wasn't sure if he was happy that she was recovering or not.

Part of him wanted to strangle her and another part of him wanted to scream at her for making him the freak he was today.

Here he was, thinking he was damned by the world to be this monster with brain trauma and a laughing problem because life had fucked him over.

Yet, all this time, it had been the bitch sitting next to him rambling on about Murray and Thomas Wayne who had caused all of his problems.

She let some sick bastard torture the both of them.

And she didn't try to leave.

They only escaped their own deaths because CPS had decided to do a check in.

Arthur couldn't remember anything but, the files were so detailed and backed with newspaper clippings; it was becoming harder and harder to act ignorant.

He got up and gritted his teeth before walking over to the home phone.

He punched in a bunch of numbers and put the phone to his ear.

A few moments passed before a tired voice answered.

"Hello this is (Y/n) speaking."

Arthur exhaled before answering. "Hey. It's Arthur."

"Oh! Hey Arthur. How are you?"

The man had always asked him how he was.

Arthur always felt guilty about lying to him.

His response was always the same 'Uh...it was okay.'. Which would always bring forth more and more delicate and invasive questions.

Yet today, he just felt like being honest.

He was tired of lying and acting like everything was okay.

"Mother is in the hospital."

"What happened?"

"She had a stroke."

"Oh that sucks. Is she feeling any better?"

"Mmm...She's hanging in there." Arthur mumbled as he leaned against the wall, puffing out another cloud of smoke.
