Chapter 11

Chapter 11 

I scooped my breakfast into my mouth. My little siblings did the same laughing when I splashed milk onto my nose. I looked at the oldest and said "Chilam quit laughing at me. You did the same thing!" Chilam looked confused then and I smirked flicking a spoonful of milk across the table and hitting her in the nose.

Her mouth opened with in shock and her eyes widened. She stood up and said "Nashoba you are so dead!" She ran around the table at me, but I was already up and avoiding her hiding behind Isi the 9-year-old. Isi squealed when when Chilam ran forward. I laughed grabbing her into a big bear hug lifting her off the ground, but when I did I felt the scabs on my sides open up.

I put her down gently leaning over holding both stab wounds in pain. Blood had aready soaked through my shirt. Kesegowaase, my little brother, screamed and ran up the stairs calling for Kaleb. The pain was different this time. It didn't burn or anything it just flat out hurt. The skin had just spilt. Kaleb came running down with his wife and Kesegowaase right on his heels.

He saw me leaning over the table. Kaleb was my beta and could therefore feel the pain. He double over himself in surprise and I quickly shut off that part of my brain. Mingan asked "Nashoba are you ok!? All I feel is pain. Shift. It should heal you faster." I just shook my head. He growled trying to fight his way out and I just pushed him back down. I didn't want Mingan to feel this. It was barely anything.

I just bit my lip and said "Get me some bandages. I should be ok from there." 

Kaleb looked at me and nodded slowly before ushing into the room that I had been in when I first got here. He returned quickly and then him and his wife helped me peel off my blood soaked shirt and then take the bandages off. His wife quickly wrapped a towel around the wounds and told Kaleb to put pressure on it. Kaleb didn't want to mess with his wife so he did exactly that.

With the amount of pressure Kaleb put on my sides the bleeding stopped very quickly. His wife slowly pulled the towel away and wrapped the bandages around me. I smiled thanking her and then let the part of my mind I had sealed away plunge forward. Mingan was, to say the least, pissed. He wouldn't talk to me, but I just didn't care.

I looked at Chilam, Isi, and Kesegowaase. They just smiled and smiled back laughing a bit. I grabbed my bag and said "Ok let's go. Gotta get you two to school." Chilam and Isi smiled and nodded.

Kesegowaase made a face and said "I don't wanna stay here all day though!"

Before I could say anything Kaleb picked him up and slung him over his shoulder saying "Don't worry buddy. I took the day off just to spend time with you. We're gonna go wherever you want to!" This made my little brother smile. Kaleb headed out the back door Kesegowaase still on his shoulder. Kesegowaase gave me a thumbs up and I laughed.

Chilam, Isi, and I were quick getting into the truck. Chilam sat on the outside. Isi on the inside. First we went to the middle school. I dropped Chilam off and she waved at me. Isi and I waved back yelling "Bye!" after her. Then I proceeded to the elementary school. Isi gave me a long hug goodbye and then she smiled and said "Bye!"

I waved as she left saying "See ya later ok? Kaleb is picking you up ok? Don't make him wait!" Isi giggled and then was through the school doors.

I drove into the Highschool parking lot quickly getting out. I grabbed my bag and locked the doors. I walked as quickly as I could to the doors avoiding all eye contact. But, it was inevitable. Someone tapped me on the shoulder and I slowly turned around.

Sadie was smiling at me widely. She grabbed my arm and said "Hey Nashoba! I haven't seen you in a while. Where did you run off to?"

I thought carefully about my answer and said slowly "I got stabbed and was knocked out. Sorry."
