Chapter 22

Chapter 22 

I slow to a halt as Mingan grows tired. Well least to say is I'm worried. Mingan has only been running for about 30 minutes. Usually he can run at least for an hour straight. Sometimes even hours. But, never shorter than an hour. I realized then that Dani's feelings about me now were starting to take effect. And, the effect could cost me my life.

I turned back into my human form again and then took a deep breath asking Mingan "What's wrong? I thought we were ok. You told me I would have time to fix it."

Mingan answered in between huffing breaths "Yeah, but I never said it wouldn't start taking effect almost immediately..." 

I almost howled at his smart remark. Stupid wolf had left out all the details. Mingan and I were gonna break down slowly and only Dani could fix it. How was it that I always ended up at the sake of other people?

I just growled softly at him and turned back towards the house. I had to hurry and get back. I was itching for a good meal. And, to talk things out with my mate. I had to win her over. I literally couldn't live without her. Mingan and I would both either deteriorate or he would turn on me and kill us both off. So it was time to start patching things up.

I pulled myself up the steps. The return run had been pure torture. My lungs had barely been able to work. I coughed leaning against the side of the house. I slowly caught my breath and then flipped my hair back standing tall and sweating more than usual. I opened the screen door stepping inside the house.

I am my met by Earl and Javier. Javier rubbed the back of his neck cautiously and says "Sorry about earlier hombre. I thought you were gonna kill us. I didn't realize you were a Light Bringer."

I stiffen at the mention of the pack I run. My eyes narrow and I ask "How did you know who I was?"

Earl looks at Javier and dismisses him with a slight nod to the stairs. I look back to Earl and he answers "Your father, Koi, has met with us many times. In fact he often called us your grandparents. Or Godparents. Whatever they meant when they said Chitokaka ita."(Literally means God parents)

I stared him down trying to judge whether he was lying, but with no heartbeat from the old man I couldn't tell. So you are the boli. My father called you the pelter. Said you liked to hunt. I never met you. Neither did the others as far as I know. But he called you the boli. Made us wonder why he would ever need to go see a pelter. He was fine enough as it is. But, I guess mother knew then. So the great boli was in fact a great hunter...Nice to meet you Chitokaka ita."

Earl smiles then nods "The same to you Nashoba. But, I need you to know. Linda can't know I have told you...Understand?"

I just nod slowly. He smiles a bit wider then says "Ok Nashoba. Dani is in the kitchen. Her and Linda are cooking. Billy is with them." This makes me growl I try to push forward, but Earl's calloused hands grab me. He pushes me back and growls softly. It sounds like a lion trying to purr. I don't resist him. I can't. He's basically my new father now. I go slack against the wall no longer trying to get to the kitchen and Earl continues "Billy is trying to be nice. He's just trying to calm Dani down. Please do not hurt him. He is really just a gentle giant."

I sigh and nod "Ok Chitokaka pi n ki."(God father)

He lets go of me slowly and I straighten my back and slolwy head to the kitchen behind Earl. Everyone turns to look at Earl as he walks in. Billy watches Earl closely and uses his leg to pushout a chair for Earl. Earl takes it with a slight nod and I stand leaning against the wall. Linda smiles at me saying "Hello Nashoba! How was your run? Did you kill any of our animals?"

I shake my head "No Linda. I didn't kill your cows. Too time consuming. Why kill a cow when I have a delicious dinner to come home to?"

Dani snarls and says "You are not getting any of the food I cook. Go kill a squirrel Mr. Alpha."

Her comment hurts. I sigh and mutter "Gee...Thanks Dani..." I turn on my heel. If I talked to her much longer I would probably end up making her cry anyway. I sighed and head back to my room down the hall. When I walk in, I slam the door shut and my fist flies to the side hitting to wall. A hole appears into a dark room. I realize it's the one under the stairs.

I slowly turn to look inside and see someone laying down on a mattress with blankets on them. At first I think this person is dead until I hear them snore loudly for a few seconds then fall back into silence. I sigh loudly turning the light out and laying down in my bed. I stare directly at the wall where a huge gaping hole is.

Guess that comes with breaking through a wall. Though the next room is dark and unoccupied at the moment. I listen to the murmings in the kitchen beside our room. The smell seeps through the wall and the door. It makes my stomach clench and I hold it tightly to keep from heaving. Billy had given me a bit of food this morning, but I had a high metabolism, was hotter than a show girl in vegas, and had just been for a run. And not to mention the fact that my system was all out of wack since Dani had said she hated me.

Right as my eyes were starting to close I hear the others talking and then they all busted out laughing. I could hear everything they were saying clearly even without my wolf hearing. I had access to Dani's mind. I sigh loudly then I listen to her mind.

Then I see the images flickering inside her head. Billy. He sits a bit too close. Earl and Linda have left. They are just talking and then he's kissing her. Out of nowhere Billy is kissing her. And, in no way does she try to stop him. She just sits there kissing him back. That isn't the Dani I remember. But, either way Mingan was coming out. I barely have time to open the door when Mingan pushes free and I am no longer a human, but a wolf. I growl loudly as I lean my head into the kitchen. Billy immediately stops.

Dani watches me with light brown eyes. They are almost honey colored. But, I am too busy pushing my large muscular body into the room. Dani growls and says words to me I can't register in my brain. But, Billy is hissing. I hear the door in the hall fly open. A woman in her mid to late twenties slides under my legs and into the kitchen. Her hair is long and brown. She has blue eyes. I just growl at both of them.

Linda and Earl come out of nowhere and place themselves between me and the others. But, I don't even care. Billy has caused a pain so deep in my heart I feel like I'm about to explode. He pushes Dani behind him and when he touches her I lose it. Well at least for a few seconds I lose it. I rush at him, but before I can get past Earl and Linda my heart clenches and Mingan stops. I shrink back to a normal man. I clutch at my chest. My chest feels like it's collapsing in on itself. I don't understand at first.

I grit my teeth and then mutter the one thing I know to say "Iskuna amokqfa..."(Heart attack) And then I am out. I feel my body hit the ground everything goes dark and from then on I can no longer feel a thing.
