Chapter 17

Zander ran into the clearing sliding to a halt. He was growling and his hackles were raised. He was staring straight at Jayden. He shot forward and before any of us knew what was happening, Jayden was on his back and Zander was on top of him, growling in his face.

Jayden tried to move away, but Zander wouldn't let him. Then Zander's voice came loud and clear "What the hell are you idiots doing!? You know the rules! No fighting in the neutral zone! How many freaking times do I have to tell you!"

Devante was on his belly his ears pinned back as he whined. Though Devante didn't dare answer. He was talking to Jayden and Jayden alone. I just stood there my head tilted and my ears pinned back in confusion.

Spencer was behind Devante copying Devante's submission. They had known, but technically I hadn't. The way I saw it I was still ok. Zander couldn't be mad with me because he had never explained the rules.

Zander saw me just standing there and within an instant Jayden was back on his feet, but Zander was staring me down. Then I asked "What did we do?"

Zander's growl was menacing. Then Mingan took over and he started lieing.  Even his body posture was expertly masked as his head tilted just a bit more and his ears came up just a bit. Zander slowly started to calm and answered "You are not allowed to fight anywhere near the school. The woods around the school are off limits from a three mile radius past the fence. I made a pact with Koi the Light Bringer Alpha. It has always been like this. That is how our young keep from gettinghurt at school."

Mingan tensed at the mention of our father. Devante tilted his head and asked "Do you mean Koi Mikko?"

Zander nodded and then Jayden snarled and said "That's his dad!"

Zander's dark eyed fell on me. He started growling and asked "Is this true Nashoba?"

Mingan regained his composure and nodded slightly "Yes, sir. My father is Koi Mikko? Why does it matter?"

Zander growled a bit louder answering "Because Koi Mikko was killed...Is this how your wolf came out?"

I slowly nodded and then I felt weight on my back. I yelped out struggling under both Jayden and Devante's weight. Devante pinned me to the ground and I whined laying there. Zander came in slowly "But I have done nothing wrong! Please! Let me explain!!!"

Zander paced slowly in front of me and growled "Fine. Explain, but it better be pretty damngood or you are in for a rough next few minutes."

"I came home later that night. I smelt the food my mother was cooking burning in the kitchen. I didn't know why she wasn'talready in there with food ready so I panicked. I ran around the house looking for her. Then I found my mother tied up in the basement. Mingan took over. He was outraged. Then out of nowhere five men attacked me. One hit me with a baseball bat. They kicked me and beat me. Then before they left me they stabbed me with silver bladed knives. They shot my father six times with bullets. I was in an unconscious state and I don't remember my father dieing. But I guess my father had called Kaleb, but by the time he had got there the men were gone. Kaleb took me to his house and I was out for five days. Then I left. I left my siblings with him, and then I met you. Kaleb takes them to school now. I'm dangerous and that's where I had to go this morning. I went to see them before I went to school. Kaleb left my truck at the school. That's why he was running through the woods. Please. I have done nothing wrong. I want nothing to do with that pack. I don't even know if my siblings are werewolves. Kaleb will do a better job of taking care of them than I could. I just want to stay away from them. I can't put them in anymore danger. I am staying away to protect them!"

Zander had stopped pacing long ago and slowly asked "So your father, not once, told you anything about you being a werewolf? Never told you he was an Alpha?"

I shook my head answering "No. He was dead before I woke up..."

Zander nodded and the weight on my back lifted. I shook my fur out and turned back into a human. Zander did the same. Mingan surprised me though. He had made tears spring to my eyes. Gods this wolf was an amazing actor. Zander took a slow step forward and touched a finger to his forehead.

I watched him slowly in confusion. Zander reached forward pressing the finger to my forehead. It was awkward for a minute and then Zander said "By the Gods I officially make you a member of my pack. You may do what you want as long as you do not go against our laws." I watched him for a second and then I felt it. It was a tug. It made me feel as if I was willing to protect this man and everyone around me.

I heard voices in my head of other wolves. Devante was smirking and then I blinked and said "Thank you. I will protect my pack with my life."

Zander took another step closer and reached his hand out. I took it shaking his hand and then we gave each other one of those manly hugs. The ones where you slap each other on the back and then pull away quickly. Devante laughed and jumped in the air pumping his fists "Yes! Nashoba is back!!!"

Devante's enthusiasm made me laugh and I blinked back the tears. Mingan was laughing as well.

I looked over at Jayden who gave a slight nod and Spencer who still looked like an excited freshmen kid. Zander was still smiling as he said "Yall go on to school. Yall are gonna be late."

We all nodded and then took off sprinting. I heard Zander's laughing in my head and I fell into step beside my new packmates. Though I knew we would have to be careful. Mingan and I were still the Alpha of our pack.
