Chapter 8

I walked down the street quickly. The entire time my wolf was laughing at me. It was like he couldn't stand me. Then he said "You will never know what it is to be an Alpha. Once the pack finds out that you can't even access my power they will throw you out. Leave you for dead. And guess what?" When I didn't respond he just continued "I will laugh through every second of it..."

I wanted to yell back at him, but I held my tongue letting him rant on about how pathetic I was. How horrible I was. How unworthy I was of being an Alpha.

He ranted on like that for about an hour until I finally neared the woods. Then I felt him. He wanted out. He wanted to run and run far. I just smirked and said "What? Can't handle not being out in five days?"

He growled ferociously, but I didn't even flinch. If I had he would have won control then and there. Instead I just continued walking as he said "You imbecile! I handled not being let out for 17 years. A few days aren't going to hurt me!"

I just smirked and said "Whatever you think. Now if you wanna run I can let you out, but then I would risk losing control. So I think I'll just save your power for a little while longer."

He growled and then the pain started. He was fighting his way out. I stumbled as I walked trying to keep him down. Soon, however I could barely even stand. He was almost out. My entire body was itching and I just resisted. He continued ranting about how pathetic I was and then I lost it. I snapped at him. "Listen wolf! I am the master here! Not you! You may have a big ego, but you have no sense of authority! I can't believe you would continue to call me pathetic! You are the one that did not release yourself until it was too late!!! You should have fought for control when you saw our mother dieing!!! It was just as much your fault as it was MINE!!!"

When I had finished speaking he was no longer trying to gain control. He didn't say a single word. He just thought. I could hear his thoughts. He was thinking about how right I was. He was now thinking of how pathetic he had been. Then his words came again "I know Nashoba. I am truly sorry. We should be understanding of each other. I...I just didn't want to admit to you how weak I was when I watched what they had done. And the pain you had suffered. I couldn't bring myself to connect with you. I was being a coward, and for that I am truly sorry...Please forgive my words."

I nod for a couple seconds and then I answer him "I know you are sorry. I forgive you. Now could you forgive me?"

"Yes Nashoba. Of course you are forgiven."

I smile and then ask him "What is your name? You never told me..."

I hear him chuckle and then say "That is the cool thing about being one of the Pure. You name me, Nashoba. That is part of the bond. The connection." I tilt my head in confusion and he starts to clarify. "The connection is the bond between a wolf and his master. The stages are slightly different for everyone. Some never gain control. Some lose it. Some thrive and ultimately complete the connection. It starts with your first shift. That is us making ourselves known to you. The second is you taking control. If you fail in taking control and the wolf wins, the Pure will kill you. You go insane. You eat everything and kill everyone. No matter what you do. The third stage is your first run. The fourth stage is you naming us. That is the last stage of the bond. But, if you abuse us. If you don't hear our names and give us the correct one we can ulitmately kill you if we wanted to. Right now you have just completed the second stage. You took control. Now our first run. But, you have to remember. You are an Alpha. Alpha's can't make mistakes with their wolves. If you do you could risk the pack crashing down beside you. Choose wisely the name you give me after our run."

His words chill me to the bone. I then let him take over and he shakes his fur trying out his legs before shaking his pelt again and taking off at top speed. I think to myself what to name him. He said I needed to listen for the name. I need to feel it. I knew for certain it would be a Native American name. Though not neccesarily Choctaw in origin.

After about 30 minutes of running my wolf stopped and I shifed back into a human. He eagerly asked me "Have you come up with a name for me yet?"

I took a few more seconds to think and then said "Yes. Your name is now Mingan."

He didn't say anything for a few seconds, but finally he said "That sounds like it might be specific. Want to tell me what it means?"

I smile and answer him "It means Dark Wolf. It comes from the Algonquin language. My cousins taught me a few years ago a couple words from there. And, I didn't want to call you Nashoba Losa cause that's too long so I decided that I would name you something in Algonquin."

Once more he doesn't say anything and I start to think I have messed up, but then I realize he is thinking. Judging whether he should tell me more or not. Then I guess he finally decideds because he says "Ok. I love the name. Now we need to talk...about...more serious stuff. Nashoba in the werewolf world we are specific about who we choose to be our...significant other...or mate. Nashoba you have come of age to receive your mate. You came of age a couple weeks ago in fact. I was just not able to tell you who your mate was. You had not acknowledged me yet. Therefore I don't even know myself who my mate is supposed to be. Nashoba you are an Alpha. A very young Alpha. It's not that I don't doubt you or your skills, but the wolves around here. The pack that your friends belong to they will stop at nothing to kill you for the pack and its land.

"Nashoba, an Alpha is never complete without his Luna. You need to understand that you have to find her. You have to claim her and make her yours before things start to happen that we cannot fix. You'll be fine wihtout her for a couple years, but not forever..."

I nod and then say "I understand Mingan. I need her and you need her. Don't worry...We'll find her." I hear Mingan give a huff of acceptance to my statement. Then I let myself shift and he runs off headed back towards Kaleb's house.

After almost an hour of running I feel Mingan come to a halt. At first I don't think anything of it. I try to shift into a human to head into Kaleb's, but when I try Mingan stops me. I look out at my surroundings we are still in the woods. Though one things stands out. A wolf stands in front of me. Mingan is sniffing and wanting to run to the wolf, but I hold him back. I watch as the female wolf sinks to her belly unsure of us her ears pinned back growling softly. Then she stops. Her beautiful green eyes search Mingan's face.

I feel Mingan pull harder as he pleads "But Nashoba! It's her! It's what I have to have! It's what you promised to give me!!!"

I try blocking him out but he comes back even louder yelling at me "IT'S MY MATE!!!!" Mingan breaks free of my control and runs at her. The female doesn't hesitate. She turns around and is rocketing through the trees faster than Mingan can even think. She zigs and zags and Mingan looks down to try and speed himself up. But, when he looks back up she is gone. Nowhere to be seen.

Mingan whines pacing back and forth and I rein him back in "YOU IDIOT!!!" I stop myself from saying anymore until I can be a bit calmer and say "Even if she was our mate she probably thinks we are some weirdos because you couldn't keep it in your pants!!!"

Mingan stops and asks "Keep what in my pants Nashoba?" This strikes me as awkward and hilarious at both the same time. But, my immature side wins and I bust out laughing. He just starts whining again.

Finally when I am calm enough I apologize "Sorry. I couldn't help it Mingan. Don't take it personally. But, seriously come on. We need to go."

I hear Mingan's sigh of frustration and he turns around. His destination is Kaleb's house but every few seconds he looks over his shoulder trying to find the female. As if she would follow us somewhere, but I let him do this without complaint. Though honestly I felt like doing it myself anyway. I didn't completely understand this, but I had felt a pull too. Mingan may have been right. That might have been my mate. And if so...Who had it been?
