Chapter 16

Chapter 16 

I felt Mingan starting to come back and by the time he was ready to come out and run, I had stopped. I sat on a small log and asked slowly "Mingan? What's wrong?" 

Mingan yelled at me "You betrayed our mate!!! That's what's wrong! After all that I told you, you had sex with a person other than our mate!" 

Before I could stop myself I yelled back "Only because I was drunk! That was the first time ever! I've never done something like that! So unless you want to ruin my teenager years I suggest you shut up and just deal with it! Remember who the boss is here! I trust you so you need to do the same! I let you handle Zander the first time we met him! I trusted you not to give us away and get us caught! Guess what! You didn't! I have only done what is expected of a teenage guy who doesn't have a mate!"

Mingan replied with hurt in his voice "But, Nashoba...That wasn't the reason you were doing it then...I tried to tell you to stop, but you were too drunk to understand me. You were doing it for pleasure only. Not because that was what was expected." 

I held my head rubbing my temples. My brain felt ready to explode. The hangover plus arguing with Mingan was really taking its toll on me. I sighed and then muttered a quick "I'm sorry. Next time it happens I'll make sure I'm sober enough to remember how nasty and disgusted I am with myself past, present, and future."

I felt a fraction of the pressure lift and Mingan said "Ok, but try to keep it to a minimal. I really hurts me. Like physically hurts me."

I nod slightly and then ask "Are you ready to go to school yet?"

"Yeah let's go. Can't let the pain go without reward, huh?" 

I nod and then take off running, shifting as I do. Then I let Mingan take over. The school is pretty far distance away so I just sit back and relax.

Finally we stop on the edge of the woods. I see a chocolate brown wolf below walking beside a blonde boy. I recognize the boy quickly as Zander's golden boy and the chocolate wolf as Devante. The green eyes easily give them away. Devante hears me and snaps his head up though he calms quickly after seeing it was only me. He walks over slowly.

I have a weird feeling, and I hesitate. Devante however doesn't. He uses wolf greetings. The kid looks away. Devante walks up closely sticking his nose in my face and then grabs my ear with his teeth. I snarl and he huffs out in laughter. I roll my eyes and shift back into a human. Devante is laughing at me as he says "Hello. How was your night? Oh wait that's right. You were-"

I put a hand against his mouth wrapping him into a headlock as I say "Say one more word and I will hurt you." Devante bites my palm and I release him. He just keeps on laughing. His thoughts however are loud and clear "You were too drunk and busy banging some girl in a club side room on a club couch. I forgot." 

My growl comes out and I see the kid tense up hearing Devante's thoughts. The kid slowly looks at me then looks away quickly not saying anything. I growl again pushing Devante. Then he becomes serious. And, so do I. All I hear is growling. Then a loud yelp sounds through the trees. I feel a pull to run to the sounds.

Devante and the kid do too. Devante looks at the kid saying "Spencer. You got mine and Nashoba's back alright?"

Spencer nods and we all shift into wolves. I charge up the hill running into a tree with my side. Devante pulls ahead. I'm bigger than them and I have to squeeze between the tightly knit trees. But, the farther they go in the farther apart the trees become. Finally we charge into a clearing. Spencer is pacing back and forth sniffing, watching, and listening. Devante and I are pacing around two wolves.

I quickly realize who they are. It's Kaleb and Jayden. But, Kaleb should be long gone by now. In fact he should have my truck at school. I pull away from the Moon Seeker pack and sit neutrally in the middle. After a few seconds I reconnect with the Light Bringers and ask Kaleb "What are you doing? Where is Chilam, Isi, and Kesegowaase!?" 

The urgency in my voice makes Kaleb pull away. He paces keeping all of us in his sights. Though he answers me quickly "Isi and Chilam are at school. Kesegowaase is at home with my wife. I'm gonna go back in. Talk to you in a minute." 

I watch him grab Jayden again. Jayden yelps and writhes and his pain engulfs me. I whine and then run forward throwing Kaleb off. I growl and snap. Kaleb quickly turns tail running off. I don't hesitate. I am in pursuit. If I was gonna have to be an actor then by God I was gonna sell it. I snapped at Kaleb as he ran. He yelped loudly and I heard Spencer, Devante, and Jayden's howls of triumph. The were definitely happy that I was chasing off one of the enemy.

I chased Kaleb all the way home only stopping at the woods. I could tell the other three were trailing me though they were trailing me very slowly. Enough time to talk for just a second. I shifted into a human and Kaleb followed suite. I quickly asked "What were yall fighting about!?"

"I don't know! I was running back home when pretty boy attacked me. That is neutral ground. The school has always been neutral ground. No fighting allowed between pack borders! I was just defending myself!"

I nod and sigh saying "I'm gonna have to bite you Kaleb. If I don't it'll just blow my cover."

Kaleb nods and cringes. We turn back into wolves and I bury my teeth into Kaleb's side drawing blood. But, only just enough to cover my muzzle then I let him go. He turned back into a human and was back inside his house as I turned back towards the direction I had come from.

I shook out my fur and sped off back towards the others. Soon I had run into Spencer, Jayden, and Devante. They all smirked and I let myself reconnect with the Moon Seekers. Spencer laughed saying "Stupid Light Bringer! That'll show him to stay away from the school!" 

Devante nodded in agreement "You know it!" 

Jayden smiled and asked "What did you do to him Nashoba? We could hear him yelping all the way home!" 

I smirked and said "Well I obviously bit him hard enough to draw blood. I chased him all the way home. Left him running as a man. Didn't see which house, but boy was he getting it. Made me laugh." 

Spencer ran around Devante's legs smiling. It was obvious he was young. The way he was so hyper made me wish I had known I was a werewolf my freshmen year. Then Spencer stopped and looked around "I hear Zander's thoughts...He sounds pretty pissed..." 

I didn't hear anyone elses words other than mine and the other three. But, I definitely heard the leaves stirring up. Zander was coming. I could smell him. And he was definitely pissed.
