I walk through the halls to my first class. Devante watches me closely. He is the only one in my class with me and was probably in my top five friends before they all left.
He waves me over and then says "Here. You and Mingan can sit here today."
I nod and mutter a quick "Thank you."
Class starts and I listen absently to the teacher. She is droning on about the importance of learning languages. I don't listen obviously, and neither does Devante.
He catches the eye of a girl and he holds up two fingers. I slowly turn my head to watch them my gray eyes watching them closely.
The girl nods and reaches for something in her bag. Then she pulls it out. It's beef jerky and a slim jim. I'm definitely confused. Devante nods and she puts them back in her bag. The little exchange confuses me so I just look away pretending it never happened.
At the end of class I follow Devante outside. The girl is waiting patiently outside the door for us. Devante starts walking with her down the hall and I follow slowly. Devante pulls out some money and then the girl hands him the slim jim and beef jerky.
My brow furrows in confusion until he turns around and hands me the beef jerky. I look down at it and ask "Why are you giving me beef jerky?"
Devante smirks and says "Because the meat will help with the hunger down deep in your gut man." At first I am confused and then I feel Mingan. He is obviously hungry. Before Devante can say anything I have wolfed down the whole package of beef jerky.
Devante smirks and I roll my eyes saying "Oh zip it. I didn't even realize Mingan was hungry."
Devante laughs again and says "Because the wolves usually hide from the hunger. They are scared for some reason." I nodded in understanding.
Wesley and Jayden walk around the corner with a smaller kid. He looks like a freshman. I tilt my head not recognizing him. Devante smirks saying "That's Zander new golden boy. But I have a feeling he'll be losing that title now that you're here."
I nod studying the boy. He had blonde hair and brown eyes. We walked closer. As we got closer I could see him shaking. He didn't know him and Devante may have been the closest to my size, but I was still much bigger. Jayden looked at me with ocean blue eyes for a second then he smiled slightly.
I had forgotten how much I missed my friends. Devante, Jayden, and Wesley had been only a fraction of the kids my mother had taught. Then Sadie rounded the corner. She walked straight into me with a smile and said "Oh! Hey Nashoba!"
I just grunted trying to move around her. She smirked and said "You ran off on me this morning." I felt Mingan growing frustrated.
I heard Wesley and Jayden whisper something to each other and they both laughed. The kid bit the inside of his cheek and Devante watched us with a smirk.
I just muttered "Sorry. Important business to attend to."
Sadie gave me a pouting look and then smiled standing on her tiptoes "Well we should really continue our session."
I felt Mingan getting angry and then she pushed her face closer and I backed up. I hit the wall with a grunt of pain as I felt the scabs trying to open back up. I pushed the pain to the back of my mind though as Sadie closed her eyes and was kissing me again.
All that ran through my mind was how much this made me want to throw up. I heard Devante mutter "Pay up." I heard Wesley's grunt of anger and bills exchanging hands.
Finally Sadie pulled back and I grabbed her hands removing them from my neck and said "I have to go..." She gave me an angry look and I just walked towards the others quickly holding my bag.
Jayden looked at my expression and laughed. Jayden was a player. He had always been a player. I had a feeling he had taken the virginity of half the freshmen girls and still was. Jayden followed me and said "Good choice man. She's a slut anyway." I glanced at him and listened to Mingan.
"How could you kiss her back!? She isn't our mate at all!!!"
I just rolled my eyes and then looked at Devante asking him "Why did you tell Wesley to pay up?"
Devante gave me a nervous laugh and said "You heard that, huh?" I nodded slowly and Devante answered "I bet Wesley that she would be all over you within the first two weeks..." I sighed and rolled my eyes. Jayden and Wesley branched off to the next class with me.
The rest of the day went smoothly until weight training. Dani was avoiding me. Sadie however was all over me. I really just wanted her to leave me alone, but my teenage hormones only wanted more. She smiled at me walking over as I stepped out of the locker room. Dani was with the boy from before and watching her spot him made me want to rip him to shreds.
Mingan wouldn't shut up either. All I saw was red. That was until Sadie grabbed my arm and said "Hey Nashoba. Want to spot me?"
I didn't want to sound like a complete jerk, so of course I responded with a nod and followed her over to the bars. Sadie already had it ready and she laid down on the bench. She put her hands on the bar and gripped it tightly. I watched her cautiously and then she smiled up at me before lifting the bar. She quickly started her reps and I watched making sure it didn't fall or that it didn't become to heavy for her to lift on her own.
I looked over at Dani for a second and then I heard a rough grunt from below. Sadie was struggling to try and push the bar back up. It had fallen against her neck and she was struggling wildly. My hands shot out grabbing the bar and lifting it up quickly.
Sadie laid on the bench panting for a second before looking back up at me. I sighed and said "Sorry."
She smiled and shrugged "It's ok. I know you didn't mean anything by it." She sat up rubbing her neck. A small mark had already formed.
I bit the inside of my cheek and asked her "Are you ok? That looks pretty painful."
She just smirked and stood up. She was on her toes as she leaned up to my ear and whispered "If you kiss it, it will all be better."
My normal teenager side was flaring with hormones, but Mingan was shouting at me to stay calm and back away. Finally I backed away and muttered "Sorry. I don't think that would be a good idea."
Sadie made a face. She looked really pissed. Then she was stomping off back to the locker rooms. I watched her go with a grimace on my face. I knew her type. She might have just been rejected, but she would come back angrier and only wanting me more. She honestly wouldn't stop until she got whatever it was she wanted. I sighed and sat down running a hand through my hair and pushing it back with a yawn.
The bell rung soon after Sadie had disappeared. I grabbed my bag off the locker room bench and headed out. I was only wearing shorts now. I was way to hot right now. My body had never been this hot before, but I guess working out could have that affect on you.
As I walked up the hill towards the main parking lot I heard familiar voices. Wesley, Jayden, Devante, the kid that was apparently Zander's golden boy, and then a whole bunch of other friends. They were walking towards me and my truck. I quickly texted Kaleb telling him that I probably wouldn't be home tonight. I got a quick text back telling me okay.
Then they were standing beside my truck. Devante hopped into the bed along with everyone else and said "Hey Nashoba!!! We're heading to the club. Turn right going out the school gate and we'll make sure we get there! Okay?"
I smirked and nodded "Okay." I cranked the old truck and then floored it out the school parking lot. Everyone in the back whooped and hollered. I smirked telling myself I really do miss these guys.
