Hey guys! Sorry this took so long. I'm sure by now you all know how uninspired I was for a while there, but I finally got back into the swing of things here within the past few days. I know this chapter is short; the next one will definitely be longer. =) Anyhow, I hope you all enjoy! =D
***********************************************************************************
Fresh air hit Jon Spiro's face as he stepped outside the jail for the first time in about five years. He was a free man now. Spiro had done his time, something to do with conspiracies against the people, and now he was ready to get back to doing what he did best. It was time he took charge of his company again now that he was out of prison. Spiro had business to attend to. While he was in prison, Spiro did a lot of thinking, thinking about what had sent him there in the first place. And it was time that person had to pay.
After a brief drive through downtown Chicago, Jon Spiro finally arrived at the Spiro Needle, the building that played home to his technology company, Fission Chips. He had entrusted his business to one of his top scientists while he was away, and he was glad to see his company flourish in his absence. He stepped through the revolving glass door and into the lobby of his building. Without stopping to speak to anyone, Spiro went to the elevator, and was soon on his way to his office. He checked his watch; he was still early for his appointment.
When he arrived on the eighty-sixth floor, his personal office and residence, he was not surprised to see his consultant already awaiting him, sitting patiently in a chair in front of his desk. He took his seat at the mahogany desk towards the back of the room, looking at the woman sitting before him.
"You're early, Spiro," she announced, crossing one of her legs casually over the other one.
"What can I say? They let me out early on good behavior," Spiro sort of joked. Something definitely odd for him. He rarely joked, especially not when he was in the horrid mood he was in now. But he knew he had to convince the woman before him that her assistance was needed. She was not some casual business associate; she was Carla Frazetti, the goddaughter of Spats Antonelli, the man who ran the mob in downtown Chicago. Carla acted as a liaison between the two of them, giving Spiro an edge most businessmen didn't have.
Carla sighed, flinging her jet black hair over her shoulders. "So let's get to business, shall we?" she started. "What is it you need this time?"
"I think a little revenge is in order," Spiro announced, "and I believe that you could provide me the services to get the vengeance I crave."
Carla remembered the last time she had helped Spiro with business. This could prove to be interesting. "Who is it this time?"
"I don't suppose you recall one Artemis Fowl?" Spiro questioned.
"How could I forget that deal?" Carla answered him. That whole project caused her a ton of headaches, even before it was executed. "He was the kid you had Loafers and Diggence kidnap a few years back. Whatever happened to him?"
"He got me imprisoned, that's what," Spiro hissed, but then remembered he needed to keep his cool. He toyed with the ID bracelet on his wrist for a moment before he continued. "Not to mention he has technology that would boost our company's profits tenfold. His C Cube could make us millions, of course this includes your family as well."
"So let me guess, somehow you want to snag it from him?" Carla inquired, raising a questioning eyebrow at the overly tanned man sitting before her.
"Normally, I would just have Arno do the work, but since he's still incarcerated for about another thirty-six hours or so, I do not intend to wait for him to begin my plan," Spiro answered her. "As much as I want Fowl dead, I cannot allow him to be killed before he breaks the eternity code on the C Cube, after that, I couldn't care less what happens to him." He paused for a few moments before continuing. "I can't just take the Cube; it would be useless to me without the encryption broken. I need to take something valuable to him in exchange for the Cube. But the question becomes what?"
Carla smirked. "You want me to do some scouting and see what I can gather?"
"Oh absolutely," Spiro agreed. "You find what the boy values, and report back to me. We'll go from there, alright?"
"Sounds great, Spiro," Carla stated. "Now, where is the boy? Is he in Ireland, or is he somewhere else?"
Good question, Spiro thought. He admittedly had no clue where Artemis Fowl was. The boy could've been anywhere really. Spiro debated on what to tell Carla for a moment before he spoke, "No idea. But I mean, with his track record, he can't be that hard to find."
"You would be surprised how hard finding a person who doesn't want to be found can be sometimes," Carla sighed. "But I suppose I could try to find this boy for you."
Spiro snickered evilly. "Sounds perfect. You get back with me as soon as you find anything out."
Carla nodded as she stood, straightening out her black suit jacket. "Leave it to me," she winked. "This boy won't know what hit him." Carla left Spiro's office without another word, leaving Spiro alone once again.
He leaned back in his chair, resting his feet up on his desk. It was good to be home and in charge again. The only thing that could make him happier was having Artemis Fowl and his C Cube handed to him on a platter like they would be after Carla was through with her mission. Spiro could hardly wait; admittedly, he was rather excited, even though nothing had happened yet. Artemis Fowl would soon realize that he had messed with the wrong man all those years ago. If there was one thing Spiro did well, it was revenge, and Artemis Fowl was about to learn that lesson the hard way.
