Chapter XIII

"Mei? When did you came?!"

Zhao YunLan felt the heat on his back, so he hurriedly struggled free before sourly glaring at the smooth graspy of the young girl.

Zhao YunLan took a few glances at this woman. This young man had become ampler from the years of not seeing her. Her hair was tied into a ponytail. Leaving a small scoop of fringe that covered half of her forehead. Her tender eyes, fair and charming face, her pointy nose and her rosy lips all contained charm.

Her face was white and immaculate, as if she were from a painting that a brilliant artist had spent his whole life to finish.

The two of them briefly exchanged a few glances before the young girl immediately turned her head away and Zhao YunLan sourly dragged her head back by her chin. However, this chick's neck seemed pretty powerful and Zhao YunLan was afraid of hurting her. Thus, he did not dare to use too much force. As the two of them struggled for a while, a commotion finally came from Zhao YunLan, "What are you doing here? When did you arrive here? Why are you acting like a thief?!"

The woman was pouting cutely while she crossed her arms in front of Zhao YunLan, sulking.

Suddenly, Zhao YunLan's phone was ringing, so he knitted his brows and answered the call. His excellent education from young told him to follow the rules and not indulge himself. However, he was a little stunned when he answered the call. His father rarely called him. Lowering his voice, he asked straightforwardly, "Dad, did you know that little sis Chen is here?"

After a brief pause, Zhao Xin Chi answered, "You turned off your phone, so I could only tell you right now. She says that she wanted to stay with you for a while cause she misses you. By the way how are you doing there son?"

Zhao YunLan only felt respect for his father. He never lacked reprimands from his father since young, which built up the respect he had for the latter. Zhao YunLan quickly explained, "I just about to go back from the headquarters, and I couldn't turn on my phone last night since I was visiting a friend earlier."

Nodding his head, Zhao Xin Chi asked, "What about you? You okay lately?"

Zhao YunLan knew that his father was worried about his mentality after his sudden met up with his former comrade, that brings back disturbing memories. With a faint smile, he responded, "I'm always trying my best to restore my confidence. Please be rest assured, I will certainly adjust myself quickly."

Zhao Xin Chi nodded his head in satisfaction. "You've never disappointed me! Right, since you've competed with Huang Cheng once, what do you think of him and his ulterior motive now?"

Zhao YunLan was briefly stunned. He never expected that his father would suddenly ask about Huang Cheng. After pausing for a few seconds, he answered, "His skills are still pretty good and creative but he is rotting away due to lack of training. But I've constantly felt that his identity is a little fishy and that he's also too wild in handling matters. So I feel that his character is just subpar."

After a brief pause, Zhao Xin Chi asked, "I'm suspecting that he's just purposely trying to raise his fame back son."

"Right, he's faking it. I'm well aware." Zhao YunLan asked with his brows knitted.

Zhao Xin Chi nodded his head. He had confidence in the strength of his own son. His son wasn't even inferior to him from back then and was only inexperienced. "YunLan, this matter has already passed, so you must look forward. Time will tell if his ulterior motive is to get revenge or to keep you away from Xia Lei."

Receiving the comfort from his father, Zhao YunLan's mood turned better, so he responded, "Dad, thanks for your trust."

After a brief pause, Zhao Xin Chi continued, "There's another matter related to you. Take care of your little sister while she's in there. It's just a semester break so shell be back here soon. If you're free off work, spent time with her okay?"

Zhao YunLan looked at her little sister and smiled at her. He was staring at her while he says this to his father, "I will obey whatever she wants while she's here with me."

The young girl that's been sulking is now slowly smiling. She answered instead by jumping straight into his brother's chest and gave Zhao YunLan a tight embrace. "Gégé! I miss you!"

Zhao YunLan had been living separately with his family and would only be with them when it was Christmas holiday. He was really close to his younger sister but as he become the Black Shield Unit deputy, Li Chen, Zhao YunLan's younger sister knew that his brother was too unreachable now. One day, he would leave her and somewhere even further. She wouldn't be able to keep up with him with her best effort. The difference between them was too great, but their closeness was still there

Zhao YunLan hugged her back and kissed her on top of her head.

Their father fell into a brief silence before he said, "You've grown up with your own thoughts, so I will not interfere in your matters. But you must remember that as a descendant of the Zhao Family, justice ethics must take priority over anything. Saving lives is our duty, and we cannot do anything that will go against our conscience."

Zhao YunLan had heard of this motto of the Zhao Family countless times, so he responded, "I will surely not forget this teaching dad!"

When his father hung up the phone, Li Chen smiled in ridiculement. She felt that his brother's conversation with their father was hilarious; she was laughing at how her father was too adhered to the old ideas.

When he hung up his phone, Zhao YunLan's, notifications started to pop up. Aside from his parents, Da Qing also called him a few times. Thinking that it might be something urgent, he returned the call.

When Zhao YunLan saw Zhao YunLan's calling over, he unhappily said, "Zhao YunLan, your really hard to reach!"

Zhao YunLan explained, "I was patrolling so I switched it off."

Da Qing helplessly sighed, "Well, I just received a piece of news that you should know about. Your sister contacted your office number and seems like she's here to surprise you."

Zhao YunLan fell into silence for a long while before he said, "She already did. She's here with me now."
