Chapter XLI

"Depart"

The next morning, Zhao YunLan entered his office followed by Shen Wei who slammed the door shut loudly. Enough for everyone to hear the loud thud and what's with the commotion happening between the two officers again.

"Shen Wei leave!" Zhao YunLan angrily shouted at Shen Wei while picking up stuffs he needed before he went off to somewhere.

But, Shen Wei stood steadily on his ground not showing any fright at his boss.

"Are you fucking dumbed now? Now that you get some leads to T's whereabout you're gonna go tailed him there? On your own? What about us here?!" Shen Wei angrily yelled at Zhao YunLan in his office. Not caring whether they'd been heard outside or if the person he is talking to is his boss.

"Of all people, you're the least that I expected I would hear this words coming from. So what are you afraid of? Me tailing T's there or leaving the Black Shield? Are you that scared that you can't handle things here when I'm gone? I thought wrong of you if that so.." Zhao YunLan scoffed while continuing on packing some of his stuff in his bag.

"It's not about being scared Zhao YunLan, it's about you being dumbed! Just because you..being hot-headed right now, you think you can handle T's gang alone when you get there?" Shen Wei tried to be sounded as calm as possible. He doesn't want to reciprocate the hot-headedness of his boss.

Zhao YunLan stop what he's doing and stared at Shen Wei. His gaze was extremely cold and threatening., "Who told you such things?"

Shen Wei thought for awhile. After then he realized that Zhao YunLan's father is still active on his service in America as a director in chief. So if Zhao YunLan booked a flight back to America to tailed T's gang then he wouldn't have a problem requesting all the assistance he needed from their military and professional agents. "Even if you asked some assistance from your Director 🇹🇭, being aggressive--"

"Shen Wei I said enough!" Zhao YunLan cut Shen Wei off when he once again yelled at him and slammed his bag full of stuff he needed on his table.

The young chief put on an aggressive face since he was no coward. He have never been afraid of anyone and would kill those who dare to antagonize him his friends, ally and family.

He had never met such a hateful enemy before. He didn't care about any face, this type of feeling was something he never wanted to recall for the rest of his life but its being awakened once again. Thus, he no longer put on a courteous act.

Bead-sized drops of sweat began to flow down his body nonstop.

At the same time, he became even more serious. He did not dare to be careless in the slightest.

However, no matter how serious he became, he was still unable to suppress the anger he feels towards the killer of his past lover. The furious conversation between the two of them seemed to be duplicating the result of Zhao YunLan's wanting to get revenge wakened more.

On the other hand, Zhao YunLan's words were like a thunder rumbling in Shen Wei's ears that moment. His mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water, trying to say something, but after one look at Zhao YunLan's trying to be calm but frosty expression, Shen Wei wisely kept his mouth shut.

The initially noisy office filled with people waiting to eavesdropped began to wonder why it quieted down abruptly.

Inside Zhao YunLan's office, only their breathing are the only edible sounds to be heard closely. In an instant, Shen Wei's expression turned pale. Overwhelmed with shock and disbelief, he stepped backwards and faltered like a deflated ball. His expression was extremely dejected.

Merely, he had a timid expression in his eyes. It seemed that he was deeply afraid of Zhao YunLan, and did not wish to put him in a more difficult conversation.

This wasn't the first time Shen Wei heard Zhao YunLan in his rage but he is still shaken all the same. He didn't know how to describe Zhao YunLan for he was too domineering and direct.

As quiet as a virgin yet as swift as a rabbit with sheer destruction in each words and actions- Shen Wei thought back and forth and this was the only right way to describe Zhao YunLan.

As time went by, all the edges in his heart had been smoothed out. But why was he so angry this time? He was not like him anymore.

He was not familiar with this kind of Zhao YunLan, so he was more afraid and worried. He always looked gentle. Just like his indifferent character, he was neither fighting nor robbing, but extremely cold and in aggressive rage.

Shen Wei hated Zhao YunLan for being so greedy that he couldn't be satisfied with just staying by his side and let the past go.

In the emotional world, hatred and greed were the most terrible things. He was afraid that Zhao YunLan would be eaten by his hatred towards T's gang and become a monster and do something unreasonable.

Did he just get this sentence in return?

After a long while, Shen Wei leaned against the wall with his hands clasped together. He took a deep breath and spoke first. He couldn't wait for Zhao YunLan to speak. He liked to hide everything in the bottom of his heart but this time he wanted to heard an answer from that.

"Zhao YunLan, after all the things we've been through... have you ever reciprocated the love I gave to you?"

For a while, Shen Wei's fingertips trembled slightly. After saying this without raising his head, he staggered to his feet and just stand still on his ground.

Promptly, Zhao YunLan's heart skipped a beat. He didn't expect Shen Wei to suddenly put forward such a question. It was too bold for him to ask after their constant bantering. But having spent a couple of days with him, he was aware that his feelings for Shen Wei grew every day. It would be a lie if he refused to admit that he would miss the officer the moment he stepped out of the headquarters to flew back to America.

But he hesitated on whether he should let Shen Wei know of his feelings towards him. He didn't want to complicate things. He eventually decided to keep it to himself. Taking a deep breath, he lifted his head and forced himself to look straight into Shen Wei's eyes. Despite his burning cheeks and quick heartbeat, he tried his best to sound as calm as possible.

"We're friends now, Shen Wei. Perhaps we'll meet again someday," Zhao YunLan responded casually.

And that was how it ended. It was not a direct answer to Shen Wei's question, neither did he refuse he directly.

'I'm friends with him. It's enough for now, ' he thought.

Shen Wei heaved a sigh of relief when he heard it but his expression is very sad. He was very careful not to show any emotions in front of Zhao YunLan, but why couldn't he do it well?

While Zhao YunLan gazed up at the distant sky from his open window and was briefly soaked in sentiment. It was only for a short time.

"Why are you treating me like I'm gone when I'm still here?"

After saying that, Zhao YunLan staggered out of his office, walking with a pitiful look. His ears were buzzing, and the look of Shen Wei's forbearance kept flashing through his mind as he walked passed him.

『 Accepting the fact that I love you is one of the hardest things I've ever had to accept to myself. And telling you about it is even harder. Wei, please fight for me as I've planned to fight for you . When I came back and settle scores with T, I'll gave an answer.』

Shen Wei immediately looked elsewhere, careful not to meet Zhao YunLan's gaze.

『 I will never forget him no matter if he leaves me behind or not. I don't think I will get over him, even if he starts to hang out with another woman.』

Zhao YunLan didn't pay any attention to others when he bumped into someone halfway. All he wanted to do was to leave here. He was suffocated.
