During the filming of The Last Jedi, director Rian Johnson posted multiple pictures of red thread.
According Chinese folklore: which Rian Johnson has confirmed that he used as inspiration for The Last Jedi, there is a magical connection between two people who are destined to be soul mates. The connection is called: "the red string of fate."
According to the legend the ends of the string are tied to two people either at the wrist, the ankle or the finger.
The two people connected by the red string of fate are destined to be lovers regardless of time, space or circumstances. (Which sounds an awful lot like the Force connection that Rey and Ben share). The cord my stretch or tangle but never break.
There's been a lot of reylo fan art that includes the red string of fate. I found some to share with all of you as an example.

The red string of fate has actually become a popular symbol in the reylo community, and most of you probably already know about this. And I'm sure that some are wondering why I'm bringing this up now when it's kind of old news, but I think that J.J. Abrams may have adopted the symbol of the red string of fate in the Rise of Skywalker.
This could just be a coincidence, but I like to think that everything in Star Wars symbolizes something.

The first time I watched the D23 look at The Rise Of Skywalker I thought that Rey had modified the Skywalker lightsaber so that it could stay ignited without her holding it

The first time I watched the D23 look at The Rise Of Skywalker I thought that Rey had modified the Skywalker lightsaber so that it could stay ignited without her holding it.
But after a second viewing I realized that that wasn't the case:

She actually tied a string or stripe of cloth over the button, to hold it down and keep the lightsaber ignited

My first thought was that it was a pretty cool trick by Rey.
Then I noticed that it was red. Why red unless it is meant to symbolize the red string of fate? It can't be random otherwise they would have used a more practical color like white which Rey would have on hand.
What makes it even more interesting is this scene from The Last Jedi

Rey and Ben broke the lightsaber in half and in this image

It's almost as if the red string is keeping the two halves together

It's almost as if the red string is keeping the two halves together. Each half of the lightsaber symbolizes Rey and Ben, the red thread symbolizes the connection between them which continues to hold them together even if their relationship is somewhat broken.
Another thing that I noticed is that in the Last Jedi, the half of the lightsaber that emits the blade, was pointed towards Ben, which means that half of the lightsaber is his.

In this scene Rey is using the red strain to keep the lightsaber ignited

In this scene Rey is using the red strain to keep the lightsaber ignited. I think this represents that the connection between them is what will bring the light out of Ben.
