They held onto each other tightly in the darkness and silence of the room. Clary blinked twice to make sure it was real; to make sure Jace was real, and so she was not alone. She knotted her fists at the back of his shirt and levered herself up towards him. She lay her head on his shoulder. His arms snaked around her waist and embraced her so tightly there was no space between them. Clary glanced upwards, her eyes met with his. He craned his neck and his face met with Clary's. Their noses touching.

"Jace, I thought you were gone. Gone forever," Clary whispered, she glanced at the floor, aborting his eyes.
He swiftly moved one of his arms away and with care held her by the chin, making her look into his hopeful eyes. At once, he noticed the dark purple scars of Sebastian's nails and fingerprints around it. He examined her chin softly and stared at the hideous marks.
"Did he- Sebastian do that?" He said with no emotion.
Clary shut she eyes and nodded with sadness. Jace softly stroked her cheek with the back of his hand. Clary opened her eyes and once more they met with his.

Jace moved his hand behind her head, tangling his fingers in her wavy red hair . He glimpsed at her lips then back at her eyes. He lent forward and softly kissed her temples, and her eyes, short sweet butterfly kisses which made her shiver. His lips brushed across her jawline, soft like rose petals despite his cuts and bruises, sending sparks of electricity along Clary's body. His tongue and soft lips flicked across the edge of her mouth, making her heart race with fire. She hauled him down and their lips smashed together in desperation. They lingered for a while. His hand gripped her hair and pulled her tighter, his mouth alternated between open and closed. She nipped on his bottom lip playfully. He kissed her more deeply and passionately, making her weak in the knees and swooning. They clashed, tongue and teeth, twisting and tasting each other in the heat of the moment.
Clary gasped for air as did Jace. She laced her fingers through his hair and bit her lip. They met again, this time softer, more gentle.
"Sebastian could come at anytime," Clary whispered on top of his lips.
Jace slowly weakened his grip and released himself from her.
"Let him come. I'll kill him." He said with slight anger.
Clary slid her fingers down his neck and placed her palms on his strong shoulders.
"No Jace. He nearly killed you last time. I don't want to lose you."
He sighed with defeat and his eyes wandered towards the end of the room. There was a large window with loose bars around it. Carefully, he lifted Clary to her feet and then himself.

Jace ambled towards the window and shook at its bars. His muscles tightened and he pulled with such an immense strength they broke and came apart. He then scouted the room for weapons and essentials. Clary stood beside the window and looked out in awe. Jace grabbed a stele and a few blades which were scattered around the room. He then smashed a case which contained a large, fierce, shimmering blade. It was silver in colour and he began to carve runes into it.
"I'm going to find the others" Jace went on."I'll find them and then, I'll kill Sebastian".
Clary stepped beside him and placed her hand on his back. He turned to face her, her eyes filled with sorrow. She did not want him to leave; yet he would be killed if he stayed.

Jace reached for her hand and held it ravelling his fingers around her own.
"Come with me Clary," he said squeezing her hand.
"You know I can't." She replied choking on her own voice.
He placed their hands above his chest. She then placed the other and held onto him. His muscles contracted and she could feel his steady heartbeat. He lent down and kissed her forehead. Clary stood up on her tiptoes and reached for his lips. They quickly brushed and swept away. He let go of her. He walked towards the window, looked out into the distance, then back at her.
"Jace,"
"Yes?"
"How will I know when your back?" She said softly. In hope she would see him again.
He smirked "You will know. I'll be your shadow."
Jace stepped onto the windowsill gaining his balance. At once, he hopped over the edge, gracefully climbed down and vanished into the darkness of Edom. Clary could faintly see his figure sprinting off into the unknown. She stood beside the window and watched him leave. He was a shadow among darker shadows. He was her shadow.
