Elsa's POV
The wolf took a step forward. I took a step back. It looked at me with pleading eyes. It was then I noticed that Jack had once given me that same look. The memory raced back to me.
Flashback
"Come on" Jack said. "Please! I know you want to"
"Jack I'm not going to drive three hours with you just to go to a lolly shop"
"But it's soooo good!" he pleaded shaking my shoulders. "You'll regret it" he sang.
"Fine" I sighed.

End of flashback

"Jack" I whispered when the memory faded. The wolves eyes lit up.
"Jack" I said again out of curiosity.
It's tail wagged.
"Jack" I said again a little louder. It barked with joy.
"Did you know Jack?" His excitement dulled.
"I'm sorry to tell you" I said sadly to the wolf. "But he's dead now" I bowed my head. The wolf stuck it's tail between its legs and walked towards me. I dropped to the ground keeping my eyes down like Jack had taught me. I stuck my hand out for him to sniff. He nudged it away and came right up to me. The wolf sat down, its nose inches away from my face.
"Hello" I whispered breathlessly.
He rubbed his head on my neck and I ran my fingers through his fur. I could feel his ribs.
"You must be starving" I said. It was the middle of winter. Most of the animals had left or hibernated. But not him. I heard the crunching of leaves, I felt my wolf growl. I loosened my fingers from his fur as he lifted himself off me. I stood up looking around. I breathed out a sigh of relief as a rabbit bounded past, my breath caught in my throat when a black wolf ran through the clearing chasing it. I thought it didn't notice me. I thought I was safe. And then all I could think was "fuck" when it turned around to face me.
