Chapter 8 • Kids Can Tell

Ya' know, the school days are getting pretty tiring once you always have the same schedule and routines to do. I mean, it's pretty exciting. You always have to look forward to what's gonna happen to the rest of the day.

You get to meet wonderful people and spend time with people you really care about. And since the first day, I and Sonic spent the rest of our free periods in the library. I mean, we just love books so much.

"I can't stand these kinds of stories so much! I mean who will just sing out of nowhere?" I giggled, showing him the book.

Sonic chuckled, "I guess the author just has a creative imagination once it comes to high school stories." I laughed and proceeded to read more.

( Author: Anyone got the reference? Lol! )

"Hey, Sonic!" A voice called. Curious, we look to see who was it and was surprised to see Via, Sonic's crush.

"Oh wow! It seems that you are getting popular each day." I whispered, smirking. Sonic shook his head in embarrassment and waved at Via. "Hey." He said, acting cool.

"Enjoying the day so far?" Via asked Sonic, flashing a smile.

Sonic nodded, "Of course. Why?" "Oh well, I'm going to make it better!" Via excitedly said, showing us a  poster. Sign up now to join us on making the orphan kid's day wholesome! It read.

"Oh wow, so you're gathering signatures to host the program?" I asked, interested. "Yep! Only 100 students can enter! That's why when I got the poster and the resignation papers, I immediately went to you guys." Via explained.

"Great! Wanna join, Ames?" Sonic asked me... "When is it?" I asked. "This Saturday, it starts at 9 am and ends at 1 pm," Via said, handing Sonic the papers. "Oh, can't," I said in disappointment.

"Huh, why?" Sonic asked. He looked at me in surprise, basically because every Saturday I was always free.

"It's a girl's day with me and my mom." I smiled, flipping through the pages of the book. "Perfect! Why not bring your mom so you can come?" Via said, clapping her hands.

"Great idea, Via!" Sonic said with a smile. "I'll ask my mom first. Just hand me the resignation papers just in case." I said with a smile.

She handed me the papers and bid us goodbye before continuing to gather volunteers. Sonic smiled at the sight of Via walking around and talking to other people about the program.

"Oh wow, Sonic's 'in love' look. Rare indeed." I smirked. He looked at me in embarrassment, "Huh? Sorry, I didn't hear ya."

"Mhm mhm. Anyways, how's the bruise so far?" I asked him. "Been doing quite well, the medicine you gave me worked. But you really didn't have to." Sonic said with a smile.

"Don't be silly, of course, I had to. It was my fault you got into that mess." I said, crossing my arms.

"Yes, Miss Amy." Sonic joked. I rolled my eyes and smiled, "Thank you for obeying, O' Humble Sire." We laughed and continued to read the books in the library.

[ Saturday: 6 am ]

"Hey, mom?" I said, going down the stairs with the signature paper. "Yes, honey?" My mom said with a smile, looking up from her computer.

"Since you know we have to look forward to this day since it's our day. But I want to make it more special." I said, sitting on the dining chair in front of her.

"Yes, and what do you propose?" My mother smiled. "Well, how about we spend the day with the kids from the orphanage?" I said, showing her the paper.

She smiled, "My honey! What a great idea!" I handed her the paper and she read everything on it with a genuine smile. "It starts at 9 am?! I only have three hours to get ready?? Wait, I'll call Barry to arrange and buy some toys to give to the children!" Mom panicked, ready to call her assistant.

"While you're there, I'm gonna pick my fit for today." I giggled, going up the stairs. I opened my closet and ransacked it to find a perfect outfit. I mean, I'm not much of a looker and I don't really pay too much of what I would wear. But since it's the weekend, I have to choose a great one to also update my blog about it.

After all the preparations were over, my mom quickly drives to the venue at exactly 9 am. We were greeted by her assistant and helped us gave them to the owner of the orphanage, before going to where the students will meet.

"Hey, Amy! Glad you could make it!" Sonic said, running up to me. I looked at his outfit and realized one thing, why the heck are we wearing matching outfits? "Um, Amy? Did you guys plan this?" My mom giggled, looking at us. "No, we didn't!" I said, facepalming.

"Oh great, now we look like a couple." Sonic groaned. "I think you guys looked cute." My mother said, with a smile. I rolled my eyes, "Ugh. Of all the colors of the color wheel, you chose to wear the same white shirt as me."

"Hey it's not my fault, I saw this shirt trending online!" Sonic defended. "And you also chose the same checkered vans like me," I said, looking at his shoes and mine.

We sighed in defeat, as Mom took a picture of us together slouching and making a tired expression on her phone. "So everyone, please make your way here to get some food and drinks to give the kids!" Via said, pointing to two huge boxes beside the stand.

"I'll get the stuff, go ahead and make the kids happy." Mom said.

We nodded and went inside the orphanage, and was immediately greeted by a bunch of children playing. "Welcome! Please walk around and converse with the kids here, they're all nice!" The helper said, gesturing to a bunch of kids running around the room.

"Oh wow! Miss, is this your boyfriend?" A little girl asked, her eyes shining. "Wow, they look like a couple!" Another kid added. "Hahahaha. No, we're just friends." Sonic said, shaking his head nervously.

"Denying I see." The helper chuckled, before going outside the room.

"Ugh. Come on, let's talk to the kids." I said, going up to a kid.

I looked at her with a smile, she still seems to be talking to a kid. "Hey sir, what are you looking for?" A kid asked me. His name is Ricky, and he's interested in traveling the world and finding treasure. Kind of like a small pirate, it's pretty cute.

"Is it valuable?" The kid asked me, getting excited.

"Yes, she is, more valuable than any treasure this world has to offer," I said, looking at her while she reads a book to a bunch of kids.
