Chapter 14 • A Knowledgeable Hedgehog

A week after the 'lessons' my family gave me, I wasn't that much sad now. The 'lessons' that my brother gave me and the support from my parents helped me understand why I shouldn't be sad over that rejection. And I immediately began to change my mindset about myself, all thanks to my family.

I sighed as I drew a bunch of doodles on my notebook, today is the start of preparing the school's first festival for the year. The Starice Festival, also known as the celebration of 'good life and new memories'.

It's probably one of my favorite festivals, mostly because of the delicious food and the fun rides! But it's also because every school in Central City would host both sport and creatives competitions. It's exciting, like really. Every student in Central City would already start preparing the decor and the games they would host during the 2-day long festival.

"Since the Starice Festival is coming up after this week, the principal has decided to let each classroom pick out the activities they would like to offer for the school and the festival. Of course, not those japan activities." Our teacher announced as he flips through his booklet that's probably full of his ideas for the activity.

"Wait, we haven't even picked out a class president yet?" Tails asked as he raises his hand to speak.

"Oh! I forgot about that!" The teacher chuckled. Some students chuckled and giggled before he quickly asked, "Okay! So who will volunteer to be the class president then?"

The class was silent, looking at each other while waiting for someone to raise his hand and take the position as the class president. A couple of seconds have passed by, and someone has finally raised his hand.

"I will volunteer, Sir." The student said. We all looked at him and saw a surprisingly familiar person, raising his hand and was standing up confidently in the middle of the class.

Shadow? That quiet and scary-looking kid from the baseball team?

"Oh, how wonderful of you to volunteer Sir Shadow! Well then, please talk to me later about your proposals and we'll let the class decide about it tomorrow." The teacher exclaimed, clapping his hands as if Shadow was gonna bake him a freakin' cake.

He nodded and sat down again, leaving the classroom speechless and dumbfounded by his decision to be the president. "Is he sure? I mean, he doesn't even speak to any of us in the classroom?" Cream said, baffled by Shadow's decision.

I shook my head, "Maybe it's his way to maybe try to get to know us? Idk."

"And also, remember that I told you that we became partners in a biology class? He never spoke to me and just continued on the work by himself." Tails whispered.

The class was obviously really surprised, and all I can hear was the sea of the sound of whispers in the class. But when I looked at Shadow, he wasn't bothered by it and continued to listen to the teacher. "Eh. He probably just wants to take it, after all, none of us raised our hand." I shrugged, checking my Twitter secretly under my desk. "Yeah! Imagine if Amy was the president! Oh boy, I can imagine her panicking in front of all the papers the teacher wants her to fill up!" Tails teased. "Ohoho! Boy! How come your imagination is so correct?" I laughed. 

We all laughed together and spent our homeroom period sharing and laughing while the teacher continued to explain about the festival.

*Ring!* *Ring!*

"How's the day so far?" Sonic asked, sitting beside me. We are once again at the place that I have discovered last time, and the weather today is amazing, probably one of the best days I have felt. "It was okay. Had to get another batch of worksheets from Sir Palmer since my partner spilled some chemical-thingy on my science folder." I sighed, as I munched on my onion rings.

"Aw, man! I should have seen that!" He laughed. "Oh, and by the way, Josh's competition is coming up. Have you thought of joining?" Sonic asked before munching on his chilidog. "Well, for starters... NO. I was too busy to even think about it." I told him, sipping on my strawberry latte. He looked at me in concern, "Are you... still mad about him?" 

"What? No! It's not his fault and why would I be even mad about him??" I asked in surprise.

"Well, I haven't seen you two talk together for the past weeks. And when my team passes by you and your friends, you wouldn't look at us. Even me." He said, looking at me with a frown.

I shrugged, "Of course I wouldn't dare to talk and look at him, .... after what happened."

"So.... you're still embarrassed about that rejection?" He chuckled. I pouted and pinched his leg, "What's so funny about it?"

He looked at me and shrugged, "Maybe because you're still affected? Idk."

I rolled my eyes and sighed, "No, I don't really care about him anymore. But I think it's still awkward for us to talk, or to even hang out."

"Well, I suggest that you approach him first? That way, he'll feel comfortable to try to talk to you again." Sonic advised. I looked at him, unconfident that It'll work, and somehow Josh and I would talk again.

"I'm not sure, for me it's too awkward to talk to him. But I guess, maybe you're right. All of it is in the past now, so maybe I'll try." I smiled at him. He gave back a smile and patted my shoulder, "There ya' go. Always be confident. And c'mon, why be afraid of him. He's nice." He told me before he munched on his chili dog.

"I know he's nice," I told him. "Well, there ya' go! A simple rejection shouldn't affect you and Josh's relationship. That's dumb." Sonic mouthed.

I smiled, "How come you know a lot about this kind of things? Have you already experienced it?" He looked at me in surprise and looked away, "I ... -I guess you could say that." I smirked, "Oh, is that so? Sir Hedgehog?"

"Ye-yep! I've already experienced it." He told me. I rolled my eyes and chuckled, "Ok." He laughed after me.
