I wake up alone and under the covers of the huge bed. I sit up and look around. I'm at Sidney's. I fell asleep last night with him.
I get up and try to get a comfortable vibe from the skinny jeans I slept in. Most of the time I don't even sleep with pants.
I walk through his house feeling a sense of security.
I creep down the hall with the jerseys on the wall, and feel my socks press on a wooden floor with a long rug covering it.
Hearing a slight sound of pop music and the aroma of something, I approach the living room.
Sidney was in the kitchen at the counter next to the stove, tapping his foot to the beat of Blame by Calvin Harris featuring John Newman.
"So blame it on the ni-i-i-i-ightt. Don't blame it on me. Don't blame it on me." He quietly sings to himself, and doing a little spin, and a Michael Jackson slide back to the stove where a skillet full of scrambled eggs lay cooking.
Aw. This is so cute.
He is wearing long grey sweatpants and a white t-shirt. Good lord have mercy on my sweet soul.
"Oh, I promise I'll be better this time. I will be better this time. Don't blame it on me. Don't blame on me-e-e-e-eee."
I giggle at his high note.
He turns around with a shocked face.
"Oh! I didn't know you were there! I'll turn it off." Sidney says, embarrassed.
"No, don't do that! It's okay! That had to be the cutest thing ever."
He looked down with a solemn face and red cheeks. He starts to smile at the ground.
He looks back up at me with his rosy cheeks.
Oh my goodness.
"I'm the worst singer in the league." Sidney says, laughing so hard it's silent. His face gets red and it has to be the most adorable thing. Then he looked up at me with watery eyes from laughing so hard. His eyes reflected light which made them sparkle to a rank of eye sexy I never knew possible.
On a scale from I to Even, I just can't.
"I think I should get home to Marilynn. She doesn't know that I'm here with you." I say.
"Yes, but I made food."
I kinda don't wanna eat in front of you man.
I eat like a rude, male, drunk truck driver...and I'm not lying nor exaggerating my case.
"Don't worry. I'll make you food next time and you can reject it too. By the way it smells really good." I say, grabbing my things. I walk out the door without a goodbye.
I stop at my truck and begin to unlock it.
"Hey Hannah!" I hear Sidney say.
I whip around to see him running out towards me.
"About practice..if you are not wanting to go, it's understandable."
"Yeah about that...I'll call you okay?" I say, opening my driver's door.
"Oh and Hannah. About last night?"
"Don't worry about it. I'll be fine." I smiled at him, making him smile back.
"I'll see you later Sidney."
"You can call me Sid."
"No I like Sidney. It's fully you and not some shortened identity hider."
WTF
Shortened identity hider? That doesn't even make sense to me. It seemed okay till I said it.
His eyes sparkled as I smiled at him. Well at least he thought it was a'ight.
I climb up into my driver's seat and shut the door.
I drive home.
I sprint into my apartment building and through my door in search for Marilynn.
She is not here.
A note hangs on the fridge with Scooby Doo and Spongebob magnets.
"Hannah, I have to go. Don't worry. I'm okay. I'm just scared he'd come back. He said he would. I'm staying at my mom's. Throw away this note or hide it. Do something with it. Make sure no one finds it. I don't want him to know where I am. Be careful. I love you.
P.S. Get yourself some Crosby.
[Illegible Signature]
I place the note in my pocket, smiling at her last words to me. I should get ready for the practice.
I dialed Sidney and waited for him to pick up.
*Sidney's Point of View*
My phone rang and all my teammates eyes glanced at me.
"Shh! It's her!" Someones says from behind.
Everyone goes quiet.
"Put it on speaker." Fleury says.
I did.
"Hey, Hannah." I say, my smile wide.
"Hi, Sidney. I just want to tell you everything's okay and I can come to your practice."
"Great, I'll come pick you up."
"Um, maybe in like a half an hour or so. I have to get ready. I have to get a shower, put my makeup on—"
"You don't need makeup. Don't hide behind it. You're beautiful."
I hear her giggle.
Fleury approaches me and sticks out his lip, scrunching his eyes until you barely can see them. "AW THAT'S SO CUTE" read his facial expression.
I mouth, "I KNOW!"
I shake my head and scrunch my face up as well, her cuteness unbearable.
"Well, then I'll pick you up in a few."
"Sounds great. Thank you Sidney."
I hang up and jump once in the air, and then run around the room.
"I BELIEVE I CAN FLY!"
'Sid! What's she like?" I hear Maatta ask.
"She wonderful. Poetic. Beautiful."
"Poetic?"
All the guys gather around me as I sit down on the bench.
"Yes, poetic. She will not call me Sid, only Sidney because, Sidney is, and I quote, "fully you and not some shortened identity hider." "
They all smile.
I start to tear up from being so happy.
"Aw. Are you gonna cry because she's like a girl John Green? Poor Sid bawled the last 4 chapters of The Fault in Our Stars." Letang says.
"SHUT UP! YOU WOULDN'T KNOW UNTIL YOU READ THE BOOK. 'I lit up like a Christmas tree.' OH GOD NOW YOU'VE REMINDED ME. THE QUOTES. I CAN'T STOP. THE FEELS. THEY ARE UNBEARABLE."
Everyone laughs at me and I shoot them dirty stares.
Maybe Hannah has read The Fault in Our Stars too. Maybe it could be our own little An Imperial Affliction.
