For the first time in forever... I felt warm. Very warm. I felt the steady rocking of the boat on the rough waters. We were clearly going to a place far from Liberio. It took only about two hours to reach Paradis from Liberio, but this was an overnight trip. The beds weren't very soft, but they were much better than the cold floor of a cell.
I had woken up in the middle of the night and couldn't fall back asleep. I decided to lean against a window and look out into the dark sea. There was a faint shape of land in the distance. We seemed to be turning towards it. That's were we're going. I felt a tap on my shoulder. It made me jump, slightly, but I calmed down when I saw the pale face of Pieck staring at me.
"What are you doing?" I said quietly, trying to not wake up Ryan, who was sleeping in the room. He was quite a deep sleeper, which was good.
"It's Zeke's turn to control the ship." She explained as she stood by my side. I took a deep breath and looked at her.
"Why did you save me?" I asked. "What is there to do? What can we do now? What have we to live for?" Pieck took a few seconds to answer.
"I... just couldn't handle you going away... so I was able to persuade Zeke to help me free you guys." Pieck explained.
"You could've saved them." I growled.
"What?" Pieck asked.
"You could've saved Mom and Dad." I clarified. "Why didn't you?"
"I... I..." She stuttered.
"Why, Pieck?!" I said, raising my voice slightly. She sighed and looked down.
"Zeke's orders." She replied. My eyes widened.
"And you just followed his order with no question?" I asked.
"He gave a good reason why." She explained.
"What reason?" I asked. "What could possibly be a good reason why my parents should die?"
"He said that he wouldn't be able to safely get us back with them in tow." Pieck explained.
"Bullshit." I scoffed.
"He's right, though." Pieck explained. "Where we're going, they couldn't handle it."
"Well, where are we going?" I asked. Pieck then pointed to the land in front of us. "I got that. Be more specific."
"You'll see." She smiled as she walked away. She put her hand on my shoulder. "Trust Zeke." She then walked out of the room. "Your clothes are in the closet." I took a deep breath before staring the wait to the land.
After an hour, the boat stopped at the side of the rock. I had slightly dozed off against the window before the jolt woke me up. I looked around and saw Ryan was still fast asleep. I saw that the sun was slowly peeking over the horizon. I walked over to Ryan and shook him awake. It took a few seconds, but the squirt eventually opened his eyes.
"What?" He asked.
"We're here." I told him. "We gotta get dressed." Ryan groaned and slowly got up. "What clothes do we have to put on?"
"Not sure." I told him as I approached the closet. "But Pieck said our stuff is in here." I quickly slid open the door. What I saw shocked me. The gray uniforms of Marleyan soldiers. "The hell?"
"What?" I heard Ryan ask as I heard him approach. "Woah." He saw the uniforms. "Are we going undercover or something?"
"Really?" I asked him, sarcastically.
"Don't be rude, you jerk!" Ryan whined. I groaned and grabbed the larger uniform. I carried it over to my bed and slowly put on the uniform. I tightened the belt, buttoned the buttons, and slipped on the dark boots. I slipped my hands in my pockets as I waited for Ryan to finish.
