September 21st 1991

These past few weeks have seemed like an insane whirlwind of classes and homework to me. I've barely had any time to just relax and I had forgotten about this diary all together until it fell out from under my pillow yesterday. Although you wouldn't believe what happened yesterday.

The last lesson of the day was potions and Jacob and I were working together. For the past few weeks, he and I had been getting a lot closer but I had been extremely careful to keep him and my brother as far away from each other as possible. Knowing both of them, they would not get along whatsoever, so whenever mentioning him to Ron, I only said about my friend, never specifying his house.

So anyway, he was helping me with a potion I had been struggling with for weeks and toward the end of the lesson, I finally got it.

"You did it!" he exclaimed, hugging me tightly. "I'm so proud of you." I laughed.

"Well, to be fair you did basically spoon-feed me the entire time." He smiled at me.

"Well, kinda." He teased. I playfully punched his arm and he recoiled over dramatically. I rolled my eyes at him.

When the lesson ended, we quickly packed up our stuff and left the lesson. The others decided to go to the library to get some quick books for studying so just Jacob and I were left. We slowly strolled toward my common room, laughing and joking.

We were almost there when he suddenly stops, turns to me and says, "Do you want to go for a walk with me tonight?"

"Isn't that against the rules?" One look at the mischievous glint in his eyes tells me that he already knows a few passages to get out. "Right, I forget you're a Slytherin sometimes. What time? I'll tell the girls to meet me back in the common roo-" He stops me mid-sentence.

"I was kind of hoping it would just be the two of us." He was looking down at his feet, his hand curved around the back of his neck. His hair mostly covered his face but I could see the hint of a flush on his pale cheeks.

"Oh, I... umm" I was in shock, I had no idea how to respond to this kind of thing. He looked up quickly.

"Don't feel like you have to I mean you can always bring the others along I mean I wouldn't mind I just thought it would be nice to-" Now it was my turn to cut him off.

"I'd love to go." I couldn't help but smile at the goofy grin that proceeded to spread across his face. He told me to be ready outside my common room by 8, just half an hour before curfew. When we got back to my common room he smiled at me awkwardly as I fumbled my way into the common room. The moment I was in, I rushed to my room and fumbled around looking for something to wear tonight. By the time Kelly and Danielle came upstairs, they found my buried in a pile of my own clothes on my bed

"Gina, are you okay?" Danielle asked cautiously. I sat up and stared at them.

"Shh, Dani we don't want to anger the beast..." My two friends burst into fits of laughter as I threw a pillow at them. That only made them laugh harder.

"Guys! This is serious. Jacob asked me to meet him later and I'm not sure if he meant it in a date kinda way or what and I'm freaking out." The two girls came and sat either side of me, smiling, and hugged me. After calming me down, they helped me pick an outfit: plain jeans and a cute pink jumper. They sat with me until five to 8 when I left the common room to wait for Jacob.

I had just stepped outside the common room when someone came up to me, but it wasn't Jacob, it was Ron with Harry trailing not too far behind.

"Oh hey, Gee. We were just on our way to ask if you wanted to hang out in the library and work on that charms homework together" my brother asked me. I glanced nervously down the stairs hoping Jacob wouldn't turn up until after they left.

"Oh, I'm actually on my way to meet a friend but definitely over the weekend. I promise." I rambled.

"A friend?" Harry asked, apprehensively. "Who could you be meeting at 8?"

"Me." Came a voice from behind Harry. The moment I heard his voice, my heart dropped to my stomach. My brother and his best friend whirled around to see a boy towering over them. "I'm Jacob, Regina's friend." Ron looked from me to Jacob multiple times before saying;

"A Slytherin? Really Gee?" Jacob looked ready to murder my brother but I had to interject before they could get into a heated argument right outside the Hufflepuff common room.

"Yes, Ronald he's a very lovely person." Ron rolled his eyes as Jacob smirked. Harry looked about ready to disappear on the spot. He was glaring furiously at the floor as his cheeks slowly turned pink.

"Yes, Ronald I am a lovely person. Not all Slytherins are complete pompous arses." Jacob said smugly.

"Really? You're starting to seem the same as the rest of them." The two stared at each other, murder in their eyes. I stepped between them.

"Will you both stop it? It's pathetic! Ron, Jacob is my friend and no matter what you have against Slytherins, I don't have that problem so good evening." And with that, I grabbed Jacob's hand and stormed off before my brother had time to argue. As I was leaving, I turned back to see Ron marching off in another direction and Harry staring after me. I smiled at him apologetically to try and communicate how sorry I was that he just witnessed that and then I turned away. If this was how the rest of the year was going to go I had no idea how I'd survive it. ~
