September 1st 1994

Dear Diary,

It's the 1st of September! Mum woke us up by banging at the door like normal. She was screaming at us, telling us to hurry up and that we'd be late. I sighed. She did this every year- told us we were going to be late and we always got there with plenty of time.

I rolled out of bed and saw that Ginny was still asleep on her bed. I smirked and pulled her duvet off the bed. She shrieked as I threw a pillow at her for good measure.

"Okay, okay I'm up!" She yelled at me. I chuckled. Ginny and I quickly got changed and grabbed our trunks. I threw some extra books in to read on the way there and brushed my vivid ginger hair into a tight ponytail. Ginny left hers to fall around her. I'd always been jealous of Ginny. She was gorgeous even though she was a year younger than me.

She smiled at me and I grinned back. We picked up our stuff and left our room. As I left the room, I bumped into Harry, causing me to drop my trunk.

"Oops, sorry Gina," Harry said, quickly bending down to help me pick up my stuff. I smiled and quickly lifted the trunk.

"No, it's fine. I was rushing. I'm just so excited to go back!" I squealed as we began to walk down the stairs. He chuckled as we entered the kitchen. Mum was cooking up a feast for 20 people as normal and she served it as we sat down.

We were the last ones to enter so we took up the only spare chairs. I couldn't see Dad and I quickly glanced at the clock that stood against the far wall. Dad's hand pointed to 'work' and I sighed. Every year, he gave me a pep-talk of sorts. He knew how hard it was for me to be so different from the rest of my family but he always told me it was okay but this year he wouldn't be there to see me off.

I sighed and continued to eat my breakfast. Before long, Mum was checking the time and shrieking that we'd be late. Everyone clambered into the car, shoving our trunks in the boot.

After a long and very uncomfortable journey, we were at King's Cross Station. Despite the fact we still had 10 minutes to spare, Mum still hurried us so we were sprinting through the station, attempting to control the trollies. Eventually, we reached the entrance to Platform 9 ¾ and Mum ushered us all through.

The minute we reached the platform, my eyes quickly scanned the faces until I landed on two familiar faces. I grinned and, ignorant to my mother's protests, I sprinted toward them and almost collided with their trollies. I flung my arms around Kelly and Danielle.

"I've missed you guys!" I exclaimed and they giggled at my enthusiasm.

"We've missed you too Gee. How was your summer? I heard about the Quidditch world cup..." Kelly said, her bright green eyes looking at me with a mix of sympathy and told you so. I smiled, trying my best to pretend everything was fine.

"It was a bit scary but we all got out so that's something," I shrugged. Kelly looked at me with disbelief but shrugged it off. Danielle, however, was completely oblivious.

She began nattering about her summer and how she went to Cornwall with her parents. Her dirty blonde hair was scraped back in its usual yellow bow that Kelly and I had bought her for Christmas two years ago.

We got on the train and wandered the halls, looking for an empty carriage. Suddenly, it occurs to me that I have no idea what happened to the rest of my family.

Eventually, I find out. We stumble on a carriage containing Ron, Harry, Hermione and Ginny. It's a tight fit but the three of us join them. I was sat, squished between Harry and Danielle, who was staring aimlessly out of the window as usual.

Ron turned to Kelly and smiled at her. "How was your summer, Kelly?" He asked. I hid a smile behind my hand and turned to look at Harry who was doing the same thing. Ron had liked Kelly basically since second year when she kicked his butt in duelling club, but Kelly was completely oblivious to my brother's one-sided crush. I'd told him so several times but he refused to even admit he liked her.

"Great thanks. Pretty boring compared to the drama that happened in yours," she responded. Ginny snorted and I gave her a death glare. If it wasn't for me, Kelly and Ginny would have murdered each other long ago. They were so different and couldn't agree on any matters.

I leaned my head against the back of the chair. This would be a long journey.
