Picnics With Friends

Dear Diary,

It's been a week since our first day at school. Our first lesson with Mad-Eye Moody was... interesting to say the least. He taught us about unforgivable curses and it was both terrifying and intriguing. The rest of our lessons were fairly run of the mill.

It was Friday evening and Danielle, Kelly and I were sat outside on the grass, waiting for Jacob and Becki for our weekly catch up. It was a tradition that had started midway through our second year. We were all so busy, we never got the chance to talk so we made the rule that we all had to meet straight after lessons on a Friday to discuss our week.

From far across the grounds, we noticed two distinct figures making their way toward us. One was insanely tall and the other was, well Jacob. Becki seemed to never stop growing.

By the time they made their way to us, the sun had begun its descent behind the castle. The two lay down and Jacob released a very aggressive sigh.

"I see you two have had a great day," I teased and Becki shook her head.

"Don't even get me started," Becki said. "We just had Divination."

"Oh God, enough said," Kelly responded and Becki grinned at her. "I don't know what it is about that woman, she just creeps me out."

"Maybe it's the fact she predicts at least one student's horrific death at least once a lesson. Especially if Harry's in the lesson," I chimed in.

"Yeah but that's just statistics, isn't it? The number of stupid situations he finds himself in, one of them is bound to get him killed." Jacob scoffed. I glared at him and he simply shrugged his shoulders in response. "What? It's the truth."

Danielle was at staring off absentmindedly, picking at a tiny daisy she had pulled from the ground. She wasn't fully listening to the conversation but she changed the subject, although I'm not entirely sure she knew what the original subject was.

"What do you guys think about this Triwizard Tournament business?"

"I think it's great. Not only does it mean time off of school but we also get to see three idiots from each school do deadly things to try and win some money." Becki responded, a grin forming on her face.

"I'm just disappointed that Quidditch won't be happening this year," I mumbled.

"Really? Why? It's not like you play," said Jacob.

"Well, for your information, I was thinking of trying out this year. We played loads over the summer and I thought it could be fun."

"Fun to watch Slytherin beat your asses," Jacob challenged. I shoved him and he lost his balance and rolled over onto the grass.

For the next hour, we kept talking. Eventually, it got cold so we made our way inside. We parted ways at the stairs, Kelly, Danielle and I heading upstairs while Becki and Jacob made their way down to the dungeons.
