It was not the first long piece of work, but it was my best. My novel became my obsession. Every day, I would cradle it and every night I sang it lullabies and it became respectable once it grew up. If I remember correctly, it was 53,200 words but I would have loved it at only 30,000. About two months after my child was matured, I received an email from the competition. In 2014 there were 325,142 eager participants and only 18% of them had won. Shianne Anders' Beauty and the Styles was not one of the winners. However, just like every mother who raised a child to the absolute best of her ability, I am proud. I completed a decent novel in a month, and I improved my skill. I guess the antique quote isn't far off when it says you can't have a rainbow without a little rain.
