"Enjoying the ride?" – Monique, one of the classmates that paid for the trip, asked me while sitting beside me.
"What do you think?"
"Okay. No need to be rude."
"Oh, great."
"Where's your little girlfriend at? She couldn't afford the trip, could she?"
"Where's your brain at? It ran away when it saw the amount of makeup you wear, didn't it?"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
– Why, Noah?
– The girl does blackfishing.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Gah!" – She started to walk away in fury.
But she wasn't the only one who was up to annoy me that night. There was Ulisses, Anthony, Amanda, Theo... Marcus...
And all I wanted to do was get out of there because none of my remaining friends were there.
So I looked at the water and started to think...
"If I jump and die, at least I died. If I jump and survive, at least I got out of this shitty place..."
And I put my leg on the anchor and jumped. And, at least twenty seconds after hitting the water, I got hypothermic. Guess who saved me?
No. It wasn't Lisa this time. It was my brother who I haven't seen in months. How? He was the boat's captain.
When I woke up, he was standing near the bed, looking like he was fearing for my life.
"What were you thinking, Noah? Throwing yourself to that cold water like that..."
"I missed you too Jason." – I started to take off the plugs.
"This hasn't been the first time, has it?"
"Why do you care?"
"Noah."
"No, it hasn't." – I stood up and grabbed my clothes – "But you would know that if you were around. But you aren't, so..." – I opened the curtains and started to walk towards the emergencies balcony – "Peace out!"
"Noah!"
"Don't you dare to follow me!"
When I got to the balcony, the girl there gave me one of those papers of suicide awareness and told me:
"For your own good, find yourself a psychologist or a psychiatrist. Suicide isn't the answer."
And I was like:
"Thank you very much. I'll do as you say."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
– I didn't. But Jason did. And made me come here.
– Where was Lisa that night?
– She didn't pay for the trip. She didn't want to go and forgot to tell me. As it was her father's boat, I thought she was going anyway.
– And what was the occasion?
– A school trip to San Diego combined with Marcus's birthday.
– Were you closer to San Diego or to LA?
– I don't know. At the bus station, there were buses to LA and to San Diego. I simply took one to here and forgot about that day until today.
