Sorry this update took so long, had to do a lot of schoolwork and fight scenes are hard to write for me. Got it done, though!Amethyst PoV
We arrived at the battle scene, a terrifyingly short distance away from Little Homeworld.
As soon as I approached, I was instantly bombarded with ice shards, which was startling since I've only ever seen Lapis do that.
Steven mentioned there being two other Lapis's, remember? It could've been one of them.
I guess Sapphire shooting ice shards would make sense out of context, but with the current situation that would be preposterous, as- well, Garnet.
Don't get off task, Amethyst, My mind scolded. You're in the middle of a battle and that was entirely irrelevant.
There were a lot of chancy attacks, seemingly going off the road to nowhere.
I managed to dodge them all, but it was touch-and-go.
Then I pulled out my whip and got down to business.
I headed for Jasper first, eager perpetually at the idea of battling her and winning.
Hopefully.
Instead of fighting me, however, she shoved me to the side with a violent helmet-head swing and continued fighting Steven. I nearly bounced right back at her, but then decided to fight someone who would actually focus on me. I searched the area from above, and saw Lapis fighting two of her own kind.
Unfair.
Also where the ice crystals originated, and SHUT UP BRAIN.
Lapis needed help. I leapt over and destroyed the water chains she was currently struggling against, then turned my attention to the two water-witches. "Thanks, Amethyst," Lapis said from behind. I smirked. "No prob, Bob." She laughed, summoning her water fists and readying next to me.
It started a little like a jousting match, with each of us coming after each other.
One Lapis copied ours and the two went into a boxing-wrestling match sort of thing.
The second summoned more ice crystals, so my first attacker.
She came at me and I dodged, not realizing that she purposefully attacked with an easy-to-dodge attack...
...and I got impaled from behind.
She had swept behind my stupid, vulnerable self and shot quickly at me so I couldn't turn around and block or dodge the attack.
I felt the cold first- the pain afterward.
I stumbled and my attacker, quick as a quail and evil as Scar from Lion King (a movie Steven watched as a kid and cried to), smirked, swooped around in front of me, and I literally almost died.
Emphasis on almost, but also on died.
Seriously, it scared me.
I heard our Lapis gasp in terror, then a cry of horror and rage, and felt arms around me and another deadly ice crystal tear into my stomach all at the same time.
Which was funny, I thought woozily, because wasn't that attack supposed to hit my gem and kill me and stuff?
I opened my squinted, blurry, terrified eyes, and realized Pearl was holding me, and shaking.
She just saved my butt.
"T-thanks P," I stammered.
She somehow smiled shakily and roguishly at the same time, and her raffish smile set yet another lock on the cage my injured, hopeful heart was trapped in.
"Of course," Pearl said. "My pleasure. You owe me now, by the way."
Sometimes, I wish I had the guts to kiss her just to make her shut up when she's being a smart alic like that.
"Yeah," I muttered, staring at my damaged stomach. "You... just saved my life. If you hadn't grabbed me..."
I touched my gem with relief and slight panic.
Her expression read concern.
"I- I didn't- you-" she stammered. Confused, I looked up at her.
"I... didn't see... you didn't actually get hit there... did you?"
She stared worriedly at my gem, my hand covering it.
I moved my hand away, showing the untouched gem, and shook my head.
"Thanks to you. Otherwise I would've been impaled and dead. Thanks again for that, by the way," I said, mocking her earlier tone.
She sighed, then laughed.
Steven and Connie fended off the rest of the attackers, and Jasper yelled to her small rebellion, "RETREAT!"
They all glowered, but obliged to the order.
I could swear the Lapis that nearly killed me death glared me and Pearl before retreating.
"You may have won this battle, 'Steven', but this is only the beginning! Prepare to suffer, Earth worms!"
With that, Jasper and her team fled.
Steven sighed, exhausted.
"I really hope not..."
"...cuz I really don't wanna start another war."
