"I need to lead her away from them. What part of that don't you understand, idiot?"

"Well, yeah, we need one soul. But... can't we find someone bad? Why does it have to be her?"

"Because her soul's strong! Besides, it wouldn't matter if she was killed or if someone else was killed! In this world, it's KILL OR BE KILLED. If she can't defend herself... well, then she'll just die!"

"B-but-"

"No buts! There's nothing you can do to stop me anyways!"

It was true. He couldn't do anything to me.

After all, what's a mere spirit's afterthought, clinging only to me, going to do about it?

Amethyst PoV

I felt an odd shiver run down my spine.

Pearl seemed to notice and gave me a questioning look, as though she wanted to know why.

I shrugged honestly, and she could tell by me expression. I felt like something wanted to...

..."get me," or something.

"...kill or BE killed..."

I jumped, startled.

What was that?

"Woah. You ok Am?"

I was about to respond, but then I looked over at her.

"Am?"

She blushed and clasped her hands over her mouth, startled and only now realizing what she'd said.

"I-I- sorry," she stammered. "I just- it sounded nice in my head and you always call me P so I thought..."

"Woah, hey. It's fine. You caught me off guard a little with it, that's all. I... I kinda like it."

She was a little surprised. "R...really?"

"Yeah. It sounds nice to me, too." I smiled a little.

She blushed and smiled back. "Ummm... is, uh, it okay if I call you Am?"

"Yeah! If you wanna, of course. I like it, and if you like it, then it's fine."

She didn't say anything, rather got up and gave me a hug. I flushed indigo on my cheeks (although nothing compared to Christmas) and hugged back.

I felt like there was something that still needed to be said.

Something that I'd have to be willing to ask.

I gulped. "D-do you... wanna go out tonight?"

"What do you mean?"

"L-like, uh... on a date?"

Her cheeks flushed a sky-high blue. At first she just didn't respond, gauging me or perhaps waiting for a playful "psyche", but there was none. I wasn't joking, not about this.

"I-I get it if you don't-"

"Yes." Her expression was fairly serious now.

"Uhm... ok. Maybe, uh, tonight?"

"Sure, tonight." A small grin spread onto her face.

"Ok. Tonight, then," I said quietly, not having expected her to say yes.

"...nothing you can do to stop me anyways!"

I forced myself not to flinch.

After all, if I did, Pearl would ask me about it tonight and I don't wanna worry her.

There were other things I wanted to discuss with her anyways.

Then, looking out the window, I saw something terrifying.

A flower- the same golden one that made me so uncomfortable- was alone in the grass outside.

But then the wind blew and the flower seemed to stir in the wind...

...but then I saw a face.

The flower had a face, and it stared straight at me with a murderous glint in its eyes.

So now alongside with "I'm on a date" and "talk about feelings", I'd have to deal with "murderous flower out to kill me".

I suddenly felt cold and scared.

What was the flower going for- her, Pearl, or both?

Or...could it be bigger than that?
