"everyone! yeji is about to come out and she's really excited about tonight, so let's all be really supportive." seulgi tells her family as she comes out from yeji's room and enters the living room. jaebeom is there, along with his mother yeeun and seulgi's father siwon, who's holding hyunjin in his lap. tonight is yeji's first ballet recital and the five year old comes out in her pink leotard and tutu, hands above her head and a big smile on her face.
"wow!" everyone cheers supportively.
"you look so pretty, princess." jaebeom cheers on his only daughter giving her a thumbs up as she walks over.
"i bet you're the cutest and best dancer tonight." siwon compliments and seulgi gives him a look.
"excuse me, but we're not promoting this type of flattery. all of her friends are going to be as equally pretty."
"that equality stuff only works for so long, seulgi." yeeun argues, as expected, "if she doesn't learn that there are people who will be considered more beautiful and talented now, when will she ever?" seulgi rolls her eyes at that comment, walking over to have a seat.
"i'm just going to fix her bun, and put in her ribbon and then we'll be good to go."
"sounds good—" jaebeom goes to say but his phone buzzes with a call, he answers it quickly, saying a few words and seulgi raises an eyebrow. "emergency at work."
"can't brian handle it?"
"he's in busan with his son jisung."
"yeah and your daughter is about to have her first ballet recital." she argues.
"babe, it's a fire. i have to be there to file a complaint to the insurance company."
"i understand that but what about—-"
"i'm not going to miss it. i promise. i'll be there... but i also have to handle this too."
"fine." she gives up, "the kids, your mother and i will just ride with my father."
"i'm sorry." jaebeom apologizes, standing to his feet, "yeji... appa has to go to work really quickly but don't worry! i'll be right next to momma to watch you perform."
"you mean right next to your mom..." seulgi mutters under her breath as jaebeom kisses yeji's head.
"yah, don't start." jaebeom warns seulgi, kissing her head too. he then goes down the line, saying goodbye to his mother, hyunjin and acknowledging siwon's presence before he's headed towards the door, putting on his shoes and grabbing his keys.
"you know..." yeeun begins, "i usually don't see any fault in my boy, but the timing could not have been worse."
"tell me about it..."
"if brian is out of town... then who's the manager watching the restaurant?" siwon wonders out of curiosity.
"her name is ahyeon."
"is she pretty?"
"ew, dad. she's my age."
"i'm not saying it for myself... i'm asking for jaebeom."
"what??"
"i'm just saying... i was young once myself, and it's known for men to cheat during their wife's pregnancy."
"oh no, yeji! i forgot to get your brush!" seulgi exclaims suddenly. "can you and hyunjin go get it for me?" yeji nods as hyunjin's put on the ground and follows her to her room. seulgi sighs, "i would really appreciate it... if you refrain from talking about such things around my children."
