Jayde
After hours upon hours of boring meetings consisting of old white men reminiscing on how they got their companies started and how successful they are now, the day comes to a needed end and Harry and I finally arrive to our hotel. "So how was the first day for you?" He questions as we walk side by side to the elevators. "Do I even need to say, you caught me falling asleep at least seven times. That was just in the course of two hours." I earn a dimples smile and the two of us step into the lift.Harry presses the floor that our borrowed room is on and we stand in silences waiting for the doors to open. The ride takes longer than usual as we are stopped on just about every floor before reaching ours. What went from just Harry and I on the lift turned into it being complete packed and is being shoulder to shoulder with the person on either side of us. "What's going on?" I whisper to Harry but about three nosey people turn their heads to look at us.
"Unlimited cocktails on the rooftop, I overheard someone say a man from the convention is holding it, that's so generous of him." I think nothing of it at first as theres hundreds of people who've attended the conference and they all have high success rates within their businesses. As I mull over the word over the nosey stranger, I begin to develop a feeling in my stomach that tips me off as something's not right. Just as the thought pops into my head, Harry harshly squeezes my hand.
When I look up, wide eyes are beating down at me with great intensity and almost fear. "I think we'll go up for a little while, check it out and maybe get a drink or two." I discreetly tug on his arm and he looks down at me with a plastered smile. "After we get out hun." Getting at what he's talking about, I nod my head and stay silent until we reach the top floor of the building.
"You has the same feeling too?" I nod, being too curious to even speak. "Someone knows, someone has got to know. I feel it." He barks on as we push through the crowd of people who have gathered here for free drinks. Once in the center of the rooftop where drinks are being served left and right, Harry practically drags me to the bar. Upon closer inspection Ronnie is perched against the counter with his wife wrapped in one arm and a drink in another while conversing with another couple.
"Styles what's up? Didn't think you show up so soon."
"You were expecting me?" Harry quizzically questions answered angles a look down to me which I shrug to. "Why wouldn't I, we went in half with this function." Ronnie displays a bright smile while Harry has a blank stoic face. "Ron, now why would I make plans with you like this and not speak to you about it when we were together earlier?" The man shrugs and takes a sip of whatever's in his glass. "I thought it was a little weird as well but since you didn't say anything I didn't want to either." Harry frustratingly wraps an arm around my waist and pulls me into his side. "What did I say?" He whispers into my ear.
"Who even set this up with you, I never approved this. Dear God, this better not be coming from my account." He's quick to have his phone in his hand to check his mobile banking app. "A man called this morning, said he worked for you. He said that you came up with the idea but didn't have time to run it by me so he did it himself, gave my your card number and everything for the vendors." A moment goes by before I actually see Harry blink which raises concern in all of us. He looks down to me with furrowed brows and I shrug my shoulders, not being able to read his face or what he may be thinking in this moment.
"Question. Did this man have an accent or anything like that?" I watch as he eyes me with squinted eyes awaiting the answer. " I think so, whatever accent he had, it didnt seem genuine at all, mostly forced if I can remember correctly. Am I missing something here, you both are throwing me a curve ball and I dont really understand it?" Ronnie and his wife eye the both of us as Harry and I continue to gaze at one another.
"Uh, Jayde and I are going to have to cut this meeting short. Tell the bartender when it hits ten, cut my card." Harry sneers and stomps away in a fit of anger. "But it's already nine thirty." I hear Ronnie shout and Harry responds with a thumbs up in the air. We push through the vast amount of people for the second time in the course of fifteen minutes earning us angry shouts and glares from party-goers. "Ah watch where youre going buddy." One practically screams at Harry and I and Harry sticks his middle finger in the air while pushing through the door. Once were back inside the elevator and riding down to the floor of our room Harry angles a glance down at me. "You already know who it is." Harry seethes, I can tell as the seconds tick by, his angry is rising higher and higher.
"Michael is the first person that popped into my mind but there's a possibility that it could maybe be someone else." I attempt to lighten to mood as much as possible but it doesn't seem to be working as planned. "Jayde, think about. You and Mike dated for however short amount of time you did, you dropped him and ghosted him practically. He holds grudges until he feels like he's done enough damage to the other person; now knowing that were close again if he doesn't want to directly hit you then whose his next target?" My eyes dart to Harry as he unlocks the door with the hotel room key.
"You. But it doesn't make sense, if you go down then he goes down right along with you. Right?" Harry shrugs his jacket off and lets it pool onto the floor as he makes his way into his bedroom. "You would think so and technically he would but there's loopholes and Michaels smart enough to realize that fact and utilize it to his fullest ability. Ive always had this unconventional theory that he is jealous of me. Theres ceartain things he does or says thats off-putting yet he tries to cover it up with humor and although he think I don't notice or realize it, I see it every damn time.
