Chapter 1

Liam Payne was like any other six year old boy. Lovable, funny, and playful. He enjoyed playing with his toys, and his friends. Well, the only people he could really call his friends. His foster parents didn't care for him, neither did his foster sisters.

When Liam was two, his parents had died in a car crash. Liam was lucky enough to survive with his life, although having lived the way he had, he wasn't so sure.

One day, his foster father came home from work, and as usual he greeted Liam with a slap across the face, and yelling slurred words at him. Liam was used to it, it happened every day. But one day in particular, instead of slapping the boy, he punched him. Hard. Hard enough to knock out his first adult tooth that he had recently grown.

"GET OUT!" The man yelled in a hasty rage. "I NEVER WANT TO SEE YOU AGAIN!"

Liam didn't expect anybody to defend him. He knew his sisters and mother would side with his father and kick him out about as fast as he had.

Honestly, Liam was glad he was being kicked out. He had finally escaped the horror that was his foster home. He ran out of his house, and ran down the street. It was pouring rain, which was usual for England. He was glad his dad did that. It was sort of like a rescue call, but there was one small problem. He had nowhere to go, nothing to eat, nowhere to stay. He was lost. All he had was himself and the clothes he was wearing. Sighing in relief and defeat combined, Liam shook his head and continued walking.

The farther Liam walked, the darker he realized it was getting. What on earth was a six year old boy going to do in the outside world, especially alone? He didn't know, and didn't imagine that anybody else did either.

Then something that changed his whole life happened.

It started to rain harder, so Liam turned down an alley and tried to find shelter from the pouring rain. There was nothing, except for a box at the end of the alley. Desperately, Liam ran towards it and laid down next to it. Oddly, he felt the box shake and move. Liam sat up quickly. Curiously, he peered his head around the opening of the box. At first he didn't see anything, but then he heard a hiss.

"AAAAAAAAH!" Liam shrieked, stumbling backwards.

"What?" a voice said, coming from the box.

"There's something in there! In the box!" Liam said to nobody.

A figure emerged from the box, and Liam sighed in relief when he saw that the figure wasn't a scary monster.

"What're ya scared for?" the boy asked. "Weird kid," he muttered.

"Sorry," Liam said, standing up, brushing the dirt off of himself. "I'm Liam." He stuck his tiny hand out.

The smaller boy didn't shake it, instead he pushed Liam's arm down.

"Harry," he responded. "That's my name."

"Cool," Liam said, not knowing what else to say. He began to shiver, feeling goosebumps on his arms.

Lightening up, the smaller boy smiled a bit. "Hey, wanna stay at my place? Nothin' special, but it'll keep ya dry."

Excitedly, Liam nodded. He was already imagining it, actually sleeping for once. His foster parents made him stay up and do chores. He didn't care if it was in a box, but at least he got to sleep.

"Come on in, kid," Harry said, extending his arm. "Hey, you're not half bad."

"T-thanks," Liam said with a shiver. He laid down and immediately went to sleep.

"Hey, kid! Psst, kid!" Harry hissed. Getting no response, he rolled his eyes and decided to address him correctly. "Liam. Wake up, Liam."
