"It appears that we have been invited to the Barry's party." Carter announced to his siblings. "It's in one hour, so get ready."
"What is the special occasion?" Reuben asked curiously.
"I'm not too sure." Carter mumbled as he looked over the invitation again.
"I heard the towns mining for gold." James spoke up. "Is that true Carter?"
"Yes but-"
"Well we must check our land too, if there's gold in Avonlea-" Ernest stood from his seat at the head of the table.
"No." Carter said sternly. "Before-"
"No?" Ernest furrowed his brows. "Need I remind you that you're not in charge here." Ellis laughed. "Got something to say Ellie?"
"Yes I do as a matter of fact." Ellis rose from her seat, she still wore her night gown. She came face to face with her older brother. "Shut up and listen to what Carter has to say."
"Don't talk to me like that ever again, girl." Ernest grabbed her arm tightly. All Ellis could think about was Pops.
"Get off of her Ernie." James stood up and pushed him back. "Don't lay a finger on her again." James glared at Ernest. "Are you okay?" He turned to Ellis with a soft smile.
"I'm fine." Ellis responded, but she moved closer to James ever so slightly.
"Before Pops died he told me that this land is worthless. He wouldn't say that unless he meant it-"
"We're mining this land Carter, and that is the end of that. Now everyone go and get changed into your best clothes, we're going to that party as a family." Ernest said before leaving the room.

Ellis wore her favourite dark blue dress while her brothers all wore suits. Ellis entered the Barry's house as Diana has just finished playing the piano.
She linked arms with Carter as they walked around.
"I already want him to go back to the army." Carter mumbled. "Does that make me a bad person?" Ellis laughed. He was talking about Ernest.
"No Carter it does not." She smiled up at him.
Mr Dunlop started singing as Diana played the piano.
"Hey Ellie, does that girl go to your school?" James questioned pointing to Diana.
"I don't go to school anymore James." Ellis looked up to him with a small smile.
"Why not?"
"They all made fun of me for stuttering and not being able to read." Ellis said rather bluntly, a deep embarrassment flushing to her cheeks as a blush.
"I'll kill them all." James seethed, clenching his fist.
"No James, really it's okay." Ellis nodded putting her hand on his fists and soothing his anger.

Ernest and Mr Barry we're talking about funding for the gold testing.
"Gentlemen, what are we talking about?" Carter said as he threw his arm around his brothers shoulders.
"Your brother, was just about to agree to let me fund for your gold testing." Mr Barry explained.
"Was he now?" Carter laughed. "Well I'm afraid, that we're not testing our land Mr Barry."
Ernest looked at Carter angrily but it didn't stop him,
"And my brother here, shouldn't make a decision like this without consulting his family first." Carter smiled at Mr Barry. "I'm so sorry for him wasting your precious time Mr Barry."
Carter pulled Ernie away from Mr Barry and to his other siblings.
"What are you doing?" Reuben snapped at Carter.
"We're not mining for the gold, end of story." Carter said strongly, glaring at all of them before pushing aside and walking away.

"Thank you, my good people of Avonlea." Mr Dunlop said as everyone applauded him and Diana. "I have news: my ship has come in. I've recently inherited some money and the first thing I plan to do is buy land in Avonlea!" Everyone smiled happily.
"The second thing I plan to do is test my soil!" Everyone laughed and applauded Mr Dunlop.

"Ellis, how are you?" Diana questioned pulling her to one side.
"I-I am f-fine- tha-nk you." Ellis stuttered anxiously.
"Will you be returning to school any time soon?" Diana questioned as she placed her hands behind her back and rocked back and forth on her heels.
"N-no-"
"Ellis isn't sure if she will be returning to school any time soon." James cut in. Ellis let out a sigh in relief. "But if she does, she'll let you know." Diana nodded and walked away.
