"Auntie Ellis!" Bash shouted as he tried to calm Delphine. Ellis turned to look at Bash who was pleading her to go over.

Carter and James both noticed and linked arms with Ellis before walking off towards Bash.

"Hey baby Deli." Ellis said as she took Delphine from Bash's arms. "Why are you crying?" Ellis questioned placing a light kiss on the babies head. Delphine almost instantly stopped crying.

"Uncle Gilbert couldn't do anything like this." Bash mumbled with a chuckle. Mr and Mrs Rose moved out of the way to reveal Gilbert, Mabel and Winnie.

"Ellis." Gilbert smiled happily at the sight of her with the baby.

"Gi-Gilbert." Ellis stuttered as she saw everyone around her.

"Mabel?" James questioned, stepping forward and noticing the blonde girl.

"James." Mabel smiled and went to hug James.

"Winnie, Mr, Mrs Rose. These are my old family friends. James, Carter and Ellis." Gilbert introduced.

It hurt Ellis to hear Gilbert call her his 'friend' but she supposed that was all that she was.

"Is this THE Mabel?" Ellis questioned looking up to James with a small smirk.

James opened his mouth to say something but instead heard a familiar voice shout his name. He shot a look around but couldn't see much and the others fell into a conversation ignoring his gaze being occupied.

From behind one of the stalls he noticed a pair of eyes watching him and then the figure called out his name again and he knew exactly who it was.

"Watch Ellis." James said placing his hand on Carter's shoulder. Carter merely nodded as James broke from the group and headed round the stall to find the figure.

"Of Course he walks off." Ellis huffed and rested her head on Carter's shoulder as she rocked Deli side to side.

~

James angrily chuckled once he saw the person shouting his name. It was hard to miss him. He was standing so tall and proud in his army uniform. His medals dangling from his pocket. There wasn't one scuff or scratch on his whole uniform. No bruises or cuts on his face. Part of James was relieved, the other part thought that he was privileged.

"Hello James." Ernest said, he placed his hands behind his back after removing his hat.

"What do you want Ernie?" James snapped, he hated when he came back because he tried to control the family.

Ernest cleared his throat and glanced around. The fair was his first public apperance since Pops funeral.

"You need to return." Ernest began but straight away James scoffed and shook his head. "Yes James. They asked me to fetch you, you have less than a week to return before they send the army offices to come and get you." He explained.

"Ernie, I'm not going back." James said, clenching his fists.

His siblings needed him. He wasn't going to leave them, not again. Plus this time he had Mabel to think about. Things with her were great, he met her on the regular and she made me smile.

He felt geninuely happy when he was with Mabel, Ellis or Carter.

Ellis glanced up at Carter, once she heard the raised voices.

"Did you hear that?" She questioned timidly. Carter shook his head and continued to watch the judging contests. Ellis quickly passed Delphine to Bash and began to follow the raised voice.

Gilbert glanced at Winnie and unlinked their arms, in attempt to follow after Ellis.

"Don't." She whispered, glancing to her father. Gilbert left anyways, he hated the idea of Ellis alone. "Ellie?"

Ellis grabbed Gilberts wrist and pulled him with her, behind a few of the stalls. Ellis took a small step back once she saw James pinning Ernest against a wall.

He was back?

How?

Why?

Why now?

Ernest locked angry, steam raising from his ears and his fists clenched so tight his fingers had turned white. Ellis' grip got tighter on Gilbert's wrist, his arm snaked around her waist and pulled her closer as her breathing increased. He wanted to make sure that she was going to be okay, she was all that he truly cared about.

"GOD, WHY CAN'T YOU BE MORE LIKE YOUR BROTHERS?"
