It was Ellis first time walking to school alone in months. Gilbert used to walk to her house and then walk down with her, but this time Ellis set off early, just incase he did turn up.

She was still mad at him-

-Furious even.

He left her and she wanted to forgive him, because even though he left her, part of her still cared for him.

Ellis let out a sigh as she nearly stumbled over a rock, if Gilbert was here, he would have caught the girl and pulled her into him, until she regained her balance.

Ellis wished that she had waited for Gilbert at her house, but then again, would he have even showed up?

As quick as the thought came, it left. Ellis was adamant that she was going to go to school, whether Gilbert Blythe was there or not.

James, Carter and Patrick had spent all morning convincing her that going to school was the right thing to do. While Ernest scoffed every time they mentioned school.

Ernest had dropped out of school at 11, he could never understand it and he resented his mother, Carla Bennett, for only teaching Patrick how to read and write.

Although his excuse was much different. Ernest claimed that he dropped out of school in order to help Pops around the house more. He was 11 when his dad, Thomas Bennett, died. Pops took his sons death badly, as any father would, so Ernest left school in order to help him out more.

Ellis took a deep breath once she reached the school building. It hadn't changed. But then again, Ellis wasn't surprised. In her eight years of being there the building hadn't changed a bit.

Ellis smiled as she remembered her first day at school. Mr Blythe was fit and healthy back then so he took her and Gilbert down for their first day of school.

Carter, James, Reuben, Patrick and Frank all walked down with them but before that Ernest used to walk them to school to ensure that the twins got there safely, along with the rest of his younger brothers.

Ellis walked into the building and instantly everyone stared at her. She took a long deep breath and sat in her old seat.

Her leg began bouncing up and down. Anxiously she bit her nails.

Why was she there?

She couldn't even read what Mr Phillips had wrote on the board. She stared at the black board trying to figure out what the writing said. But that only made her more anxious.

"Gilbert!" Everyone shouted, Ellis couldn't bring herself to turn to face him.

Gilbert ignored everyone and walked over to Ellis. He placed his hand on her thigh to stop her leg from bouncing up and down.

"Breathe Ellie." He whispered. "You're going to be okay. I'm here to help you. Like I used too."

Silence filled the classroom once Anne walked in with her new hair.

"Anne." Gilbert stood from his crouched down position next to Ellis. Ellis furrowed her brows and clenched her jaw.

"You're back." Anne stayed as she looked at Gilbert Blythe.

"Yeah. Hi." Gilbert smiled.

"There's no gold!" Anne blurted out and Ellis scoffed, Carter was right- as always.

"I-I know. I heard. That's not why I'm here." Gilbert couldn't help but glance to Ellis. "It's really good to see you."

"Nice hair." Ellis muttered, Anne was taking her Gilbert way from her.

Her Gilbert.

She liked the sound of that.

Everyone was in shock that Ellis Bennett has just talked without stuttering.

Cole sat down almost scared to take a seat next to Ellis.

"Was that sarcasm?" He questioned.

"What do you think?" She turned to face Cole. He sat there chuckled quietly until Mr Phillips walked in.

"Open your readers to page 20." Mr Phillips instructed. He walked to the front and stopped in front of Anne. "It appears we have a new boy in class today." Everyone laughed. "Are you sure you're sitting in the right place young man?"

Ellis glanced over to Gilbert, who sat clenching his jaw. She couldn't help but get annoyed.

Why was he getting so worked up for Anne?
