(Hey everyone! Sorry to interrupt your reading, but I just wanted to remind you all of something important. This is based in the NCIS world, but it's the What Really Happens Series. Therefore, not everything will match up with the show and anything is game. Believe me, I think you all would have wanted this warning ;) Have fun reading!)
Melissa's POV:
When we get to work, I hesitate to get out of the car. I didn't think this through. If my emotions are still high, so are his. There's no way we're ready to see each other.
"Baby?"
The second I hear his voice; I shake my head. "I can't do this. I don't know what I was thinking. We shouldn't have come here."
"Hey." He grabs my hands. "Yes, you can. I'm right here with you."
I take a second to breathe. I drove because I knew if I didn't, I wouldn't have made it here. If Tim drove, he would have turned around the second I asked. I just drove and I couldn't stop. I didn't want to look stupid.
I know now that I don't because he's here, holding my hold through it all.
We get out of the car and say nothing to each other. It's a crazy thing, thinking that we can walk through this building holding hands. Except I can't right now. My hands are too clammy and I'm walking too fast for him.
We get to the squad room and no one is here. We're not surprised because we know the guys didn't come in today.
"Where would he be?"
He starts walking towards the stairs. "Maybe with Vance."
I'm out of breath before we reach the top of the stairs.
Tim barges into Vance's office and he's there, not with Gibbs but with his secretary.
He's shocked to see us, but he isn't mad. "Peters. McGee. What are you doing here? Gibbs told me he gave all of you the day off." His secretary focuses on her laptop instead of the conversation we interrupted.
If Vance knows I'm answering to Gibbs again, what else does he know? "Hi," I say. "I just came by to pick up something from my office."
He shakes his head.
"Did Gibbs stay home too?" I ask with a high-pitched voice.
He shrugs and focuses back to the file he has in his hands. "I'm not sure."
That doesn't make any sense, but it's the answer I'm going to get.
"Thanks Vance." Tim says and he leads me out of the room.
"Well, at least we tried." He makes his way towards the stairs while I start walking pass them. He turns around when he notices my footsteps aren't behind him anymore. "Where are you going?"
"I need to check if someone picked up something in my office."
I doubt John came by for the pills. I just wish he would let me know how he's doing. I know that he said he got a few more hours of sleep than usual. If I know I can do more I want to do it.
