When It Rains And Snows

Kopa POV
I woke alone the next morning.
"Vitani" I said. I looked around and she was outside then den watching some lion Cubs play around. She seemed happy and blissful. I slow walked up behind her try not to make a noise. Then I leaned next to her ear and said
"What are you doing". She nearly jumped out of skin.
"Geeze Kopa don't scare me like that".
"What are you doing"
"I don't know just watching everyone here. They all seem happy. I don't think everyone in pridelands are this happy".
I noticed she had focused on the cubs. Why did she watch them, was it because she envied their playful childhood or something different.
"Come before it gets to late".
"Where to now".
"Well the next place after this is a swampy forest where there is nowhere to stop so we will have to go through there. Hopefully now that I know the way it will be quicker. Hope you don't mind mud".
"Ha who do I look like Tiffu or Zuri".
"Well I don't know them very well but you are definitely a Tiffu" I teased.
She laughed.
"Not a chance".
We headed out to the swamp. Even better for us it was raining, not.
We passed the mongoose and monkey homes. They were all still getting along.
"That's odd for them to be out here in the marsh" said Vitani.
"I know but what are you gonna do". Duma and Adolfo were kind enough to let us stay under one of their trees to get out of the rain.
"How long will it last"
"Probably a couple hours".
"Ugh I hope we get there in time".
"I hope so too Tani". Luckily the tree trunk protected us from direct rain but it was still wet and muddy in here. We lay staring out at the marsh waiting for the rain to stop. I looked back and realized that behind was a small rock covering an opening.
"Hey Vitani look at this" I pushed the rock aside. On the other side was a cave system.
"Should we check it out".
"Yeah it may provide better shelter than here". We walked down inside. It was a large cave. Usually caves like these aren't abandoned. I decided to call out.
"Hello is anyone in here there is we don't want to intrude on your home".
Vitani looked at me.
"What are you doing".
"Making sure no one is here".
"Why".
"So we aren't trespassing".
"Hello" I called again. There was no response.
"See no one" said Vitani.
Suddenly voices cried out.
"Help, down here".
"Woah sounds like someone is hurt" I said as we rushed down to the source of the noise. When we reached it I saw someone I never thought I would see again. It was Rein and Snow. Snow had her leg stuck in deep mud and Rein stood over her.
"Help her leg is stuck and I can't get it out" said Rein.
"Any ideas Vitani" I said.
"Well I have done this before, if we use a stick and place it in between her leg and the mud we should be able to pull her out".
"Got it" I went outside of the cave in the rain and grabbed a stick then ran back.
"What's the plan" said Rein.
"He is going to place the stick between her leg and the mud then we should be able to pull her out. Don't worry the stick shouldn't stab you but may scrap and cut you".
"It's okay anything to get out of here" said Snow.
"Alright ease the stick and be sure to wiggle it back and forth".
I did as Vitani said. I slid it in slowly, carefully, and wiggling all the way down until she said.
"Alright that's good now let's pull"
We each grabbed ahold of her and pulled. It took a couple tries but we got her out. It didn't cut her leg to bad but her leg was very dirty.
"Thank you it it weren't for you two we wouldn't be out of here".
"No problem my name is Kopa and this is Vitani".
"Wait Kopa as in Kopa the kid from the pridelands".
"Yeah that's me Rein".
"Wow you have grown so much since we last saw you".
"What happened to you guys you didn't come back after the attack".
"Yeah we ended up running out some wolves but got lost in the process. We ended up here in this cave for the night and Snow ended up stepping into some deep mud and got stuck".
"You have been here for that long and with your leg stuck" I said.
"Yep" said Snow.
"How have you survived".
"Well I wouldn't leave her so I would bring food for us to eat".
"So you guys are lost".
"Yep" said Snow.
"Well you are in luck we are headed there".
"Why weren't you going home".
"I did make it home but lately threats against the tree have been made and we are going to warn everyone".
They realized who Vitani was.
"Oh so this is your girlfriend that you told us so much about" they teased.
I became embarrassed and so did Vitani. They laughed as they headed up out of the muddy pit. Vitani slapped my shoulder.
"Ow"
"Did you tell everybody about us" she said embarrassed.
"When people asked about my past I would".
"Why it isn't any of their business".
"Because I love you, talking about you and the others made me feel like I was there with you".
She smiled and nuzzled me.
"Well I am here with you now".
"And I am happy for that" I smiled. Vitani and I went back to the top of the cave where we saw Rein and Snow already asleep. We laid down next to each other and went to sleep. We were both cover in mud, dirt, and were wet from the rain but we didn't care as long as we had each other we were okay.
