I stood up from my kitchen table, putting the apple core in the bin before rushing out of the door.

I knew Devi for as long as I could remember so I knew she would leave me without hesitation if I don't hurry up.

"What made you late this time?"

I looked at the rear-view mirror and began to wipe away the toothpaste in the corner of my mouth,

"Spent too much brushing my teeth."

"Typical."

She began to back out of my driveway as I rummaged through my bag to get my phone out,

"How'd that date go?"

I saw her blush and she covered the side of her face,

"I don't want to talk about it."

I stifled my laugh and unlocked my phone,

"Don't tell me he was worse than the last one."

She pointed at me as we neared a stop sign,

"Hey, the last one was nice up until..."

"I have never searched any dead pigs, trust me."

I narrowed my eyes slightly before shrugging, shutting my phone off and stuffing it inside my pocket.

We both got out of the car and walked inside the store.

"I have to check a few things, watch the counter for me?"

I asked her and she nodded. I walked away from her and towards the shelves of books. I began to tap my fingers against the spines of the books, some old, some new.

I smiled as I made it to the comic section. I pulled one out and stared at the cover. This was relatively new, not a lot of rips or discolorment.

I opened it up and I stared at the panels.

I felt a slight tug at my pant leg and I looked down. I furrowed my brows as I was staring at a small boy.

"Hey there little guy, are you here by yourself?"

I asked him as he brought his hand up to his lips. He nodded his head no and looked down.

"Can you help me find my mom?"

He asked me and I smiled,

"Yes, of course!"

I crouched down in front of him and he stared at my eyes,
