Broken window

I woke up to the sound of shattering glass. I gasped in shock, reaching for my phone.

"What the fuck was that.."

I said under my breath. I quietly walked over to the storage closet. I grabbed the first weapon I touched, which so happened to be a baseball bat. I gripped the handle tightly as I walked to my bedroom door, which so happened to be where the shattering noise came from. I held my ear against the door and heard for any other noises coming from inside.

I took in a deep breath before opening the door quickly, rushing inside, ready to swing the bat. I found no one here and I furrowed my brows.

I looked everywhere, under the bed, behind the door, in the closet, everywhere.

I dropped the bat quickly, hearing the wood hitting the ground resonating in the room. I walked around the room again to double-check everything.

I felt the broken shards of glass under my feet and I quickly jumped away. I looked at the broken window and stared at the red liquid that took me no time to realize it as blood.

The blood had begun to drip to the floor the longer I stared at it. Whoever just tried to break in must have cut themselves bad on the window trying to get away from the mess they just made.

I don't know what it was but I just ran out of the room and shut the door. I ran to get my phone and I unlocked it as quick as I could. I rang up Devi and began to search through my house,

"Y/N, what's up?"

I shut the bathroom door and walked to the guest bedroom,

"I think someone just tried to break into my house."

I said with no emotion in my voice. This would usually freak me the fuck out but it calmed me down to know that the intruder didn't take anything.

"What? Wait, what the hell do you mean?"

I walked through the kitchen, searching under the table as well,

"Come over."

I hung up quickly and put my phone on the kitchen counter. I walked to back to the room and looked out the broken window.

"Fuck whoever is making me clean this up."

I said under my breath as I walked to the kitchen to get a broom. I walked back and wiped up the glass shards and threw them into the trash. I went back to my room and sat on the bed, biting my nails.

I thought about the ways the window could have been broken,

Maybe a brick? No, I would have seen something nearby.

Maybe some stupid kids that just cut their hand on the glass.

I groaned slightly and stood up, walking over to the kitchen to make myself some tea. As the water was boiling, my phone rang. I picked it up without looking at the caller ID.

"Hello?"

Silence on the other line.

Actually-I picked something up. It was a scream in the background before the call ended,

"What the fuck."

I stared at my phone in disgust before shutting it off, putting it on silence.

The kettle whistled and I quickly grabbed it. I poured the hot water in a cup and put in a tea bag. I rubbed my temples with my eyes closed, trying to get all the thoughts out of my head.

"I swear to god, one of these days, I'll kill myself."

There was a knock at the door so I went over to it. I opened it up to see Devi with a worried expression,

"Okay, so what happened again?"

I nudged my head back before walking towards my bedroom door. I heard Devi close the door behind us and her boots following me to my room.

I opened the door, allowing her to see inside.

"Oh god, is that blood?"

She stepped inside as I peaked in,

"Yeah."

She traced the top part of my window and looked at the house next to mine,

"Should we call the police?"

I nodded my head no,

"The cops here suck. They won't do anything about it."

She chuckled lightly before letting her arm flop back to her side.

"What are you going to do about the window?"

I shrugged, wrapping my arms around myself,

"I was thinking of calling someone to fix it. I'm hoping to get it fixed today."

She raised her brows slightly before we both walked out,

"I know a guy."

I smiled at her, patting her lower back,

"Thanks, Dev."

I walked to the kitchen and began to drink my tea.

"Do you want me to stay?"

I shrugged,

"If you want to."

She smiled before going to the couch.

"I'll give you the number now."

I nodded and I got up to grab both my tea and my phone. I spotted the tea but I didn't see the phone.

"Dev?"

I grabbed my cup and walked to the living room,

"Did you touch my phone?"

"Why would I do that?"

I shrugged, sitting on the couch,

"I'll find it later."

I took a sip of my tea as Devi began to call the guy she was talking about. I zoned her out and thought about my phone.

Of course, it would be temporary so that's why it didn't cost more than 150 but I remember specifically that I left it on the counter.

Maybe the person is still here or was
