I finally got to Devi's house, knocking on her door repeatedly. I peeked inside her window and I saw her in her kitchen. She was staring right back at me and I knocked on the window.
She turned her attention back to her phone, scrolling through something.
"Devi! Open up!"
I said to her and she tried to look behind me from the window. She got up quickly and opened the door, giving me no time to speak to her before she pulled me in.
"Devi, What's wrong? You haven't been coming to work."
She shut the door quickly, locking it. Her hair was in pigtails and I was pretty surprised to see her change her hair for once.
"I don't feel safe going out anymore."
I furrowed my brows, following her to the couch,
"What do you mean? What happened?"
She shut the blinds quickly and went back to the couch, bringing her legs up onto the cushions,
"I went out on a date."
I chuckled lightly,
"I mean, that's not a huge surprise. What did he do? Did he crash the car?"
I chuckled again but she looked up at me in all seriousness,
"Oh shit, this is more serious than it seems."
I sat next to her as she wrapped her arms around her legs. I wrapped my arm around her shoulder and she rested her head on her knees,
"He tried to fucking kill me."
I furrowed my brows, taking a bit longer than I needed to process.
"Wait, what the fuck?"
She nodded her head, standing up abruptly,
"It started off normal. He went to the book store and we talked. I asked him out and he said yes. We went to the cliff overlooking the city and then we went back to his place."
She rubbed her face and began to scratch her arm, making red marks appear,
"He was so nice until he left the room. I heard him talking to himself so I went inside the room to find him getting all crazy and he pulled a fucking knife out on me!"
she turned around to show me her face of anger. She pinched the bridge of her nose and held her elbow,
"Thank god I was able to kick his ass and get out of their untouched."
I stood up and I hugged her,
"Oh god, that's terrible."
She hugged back and buried her face into my shoulder,
"Now I'm scared that he'll try to find me."
I pulled away, holding her shoulders,
"Why didn't you call the cops?"
She pulled away completely and threw her arms in the air,
"They didn't do shit! I called several times!"
She punched the nearest wall and I jumped back slightly,
"Ok Dev, calm down."
I held her lower back and she turned towards me,
"I have the right to be angry."
I nodded my head, leading her to the couch,
"I know you do, you could have been killed."
I sat next to her and held her shoulder,
"But right now, I need you to calm down. You're going to destroy your house otherwise."
She took in a deep breath in and out. She closed her eyes gently and I opened them once more,
"Okay, Okay... I'm calm."
I let go of her shoulder and she took in another deep breath.
"Can you just stay with me tonight? I don't feel safe staying alone."
I smiled slightly before nodding,
"I can do that Dev. But you have to come to work all next week."
She looked out the window for a second before nodding,
"I will. I promise."
She stuck out her pinky finger and I smiled before wrapping mines in hers. We hugged each other quickly and I set my things down,
"I'll take the floor of your room."
We both walked towards her room and she smiled at me,
"you do know that my bed is big enough for both of us, right?"
I smiled, setting a comforter on the side of her bed,
"Oh I know, I just think you need the space."
She smiled before hitting my upper arm roughly. I rubbed my arm slightly before taking off my jacket,
"I'm going to take a nap, Dev. Wake me up when six rolls around."
She nodded, sitting on her bed and pulling out her phone. I laid down onto my makeshift bed, rolling on to my right side to face away from Devi. I closed my eyes gently as I drifted off to sleep.
