Kaede was panicking, the alarms in the dining hall were going off and an arid smell flooded the room. Monokuma had been here a few moments before, promising a bucket of water as he didn't think to install sprinklers into the school.
"I heard fire alarms." A voice said, "And burning--I mean, cooking."
Kaede turned her head to see Rantaro standing in the doorway to the kitchen. The avocado head walked over and glanced at the mess Kaede was making, he let out a pitting laugh.
"Now that's just embarrassing. Back up." Kaede gladly stepped away from the burning counter tops, watching Rantaro as he started dumping all the burned food into the trash. Slowly the terrible smell and smoke dissipated from the room.
"Why don't you help me, Kaede?" Rantaro asked, putting an apron on.
"I'm not that great in the kitchen..." Kaede smiled apologetically, "My fingers are only good for playing piano."
"I'll teach you." Rantaro offered, "We should make enough for everyone tomorrow." Rantaro walked over to the pantry and pulled out several bags and labeled bottles, doing the same to the fridge.
"What are we making?" Kaede asked, peering over his shoulder.
"I was thinking cheesecake with strawberries." Rantaro smiled at her, "Want to help?"
Kaede nodded, her mouth basically watering at the thought.
"Great, here," Rantaro passed her a box of graham crackers, "I need you to crush them."
Kaede nodded, opening the box and pulling out the sheets of crackers. Using her hands to smash them together over a bowl, Rantaro melted butter over the stove. The avocado head also grabbed granulated sugar and kosher salt from the pile of bottles on the counter.
"Is this good?" Kaede asked, showing him the bowl.
"Yes, good job, Kaede." Rantaro smiled, his hands brushing against hers as he took the bowl. Kaede felt a light blush make its way to her face, as she watched the taller throw the sugar, butter, and salt into the ground graham crackers, mixing it with a large ladle.
"What's next?" Kaede asked, excited.
"Ummm, we have to put this in a pan then we can make the cream."
"I can do that~"
"Okay, grab a pan and I'll show you how to do it." Rantaro smiled as Kaede grabbed a pan from a drawer.
Rantaro had a glass cup in his hand, "Dump the mix into the pan and use the cup to press it down evenly." He explained as Kaede started doing as he instructed.
Leaving Kaede to do that, the male turned to the ingredients he had left out. He dumped four cups of cream cheese and four eggs into a large bowl, adding 1 ¼ cups of sugar and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract. Kaede had finished by that point and was dicing up the strawberries.
"We'll have to finish soon. It's almost 10 p.m, Monokuma will shut down the dining hall soon." Kaede said, her voice sounded kind of deflated.
"We have another two hours." Rantaro said as he pours the thick filling into Kaede's pie crust, watching the cream fold over itself.
Kaede opened the oven, allowing Rantaro to place the pan inside.
"Now we wait for 30 minutes." Rantaro set a kitchen timer, turning to Kaede with an expectant look on his face.
"What?"
"What should we do to waste 30 minutes?" Rantaro asked.
"Oh! I could teach you how to play piano!" Kaede smiled, finally getting at what Rantaro was hinting at, "Do you know how to play?"
"Not really." Rantaro rubbed the back of his neck with a hand, slightly embarrassed.
"Then what are we standing around here for?" Kaede exclaimed, grabbing Rantaro's hand and dragging him down the hall.
The pair passed Shuichi, Kaito, and Maki, who all gave him weird looks. And Miu who made some dirty comment or another. When they reached the Ultimate Pianist's lab, Kaede sat the avocado head down on the bench, taking a seat next to him.
It took a while, but eventually Rantaro was able to play the first few notes of Just the Way You Are. Kaede always giggled when Rantaro messed up, placing her hands over his to press his fingers on the correct keys.
"Like this, Rantaro." Kaede smiled after about twenty minutes.
The blonde easily slid her fingers over the ivory keys, filling the lab with gentle music. The playing was so perfect that Rantaro could almost hear a voice singing the lyrics. As the last cord dragged out, Kaede opened her lavender eyes to look at Rantaro.
"Just the way you are~ Now you try."
Rantaro chuckled, "I don't think I could even compete after hearing you play, Kaede."
"Aww, don't say that! You could be just as good as me with practice."
After the pair finished, they headed back to the kitchen to take the cheesecake out of the oven. The sweet aroma filling the room.
"Now we have to let it cool and put it in the fridge. We can serve it tomorrow at breakfast." Rantaro said while sprinkling some of the diced strawberries on the top.
"Aww, but I want to have some now." Kaede giggled jokingly.
"Here." Rantaro handed her a strawberry.
The pianist smiled and plopped it in her mouth.
"I'll see you tomorrow then?" She asked, taking another strawberry and holding it with her lips.
"I'll look forward to it." Rantaro chuckled, taking a bit of the strawberry Kaede was holding her her mouth.
Rantaro left the kitchen, leaving Kaede a flustered mess in the dining hall.

I was tempted to make this a Kirumi x Tenko one since I'm guessing Kirumi can cook. But I decided against it, I hope you liked it!
