The night had indeed been cold. The pharaoh couldn't seem to get a moment of sleep his eyes met with her sleeping face. He felt his heart race when he thought of her words hanging in his mind. Why he couldn't kill her? the idea that thrilled him yet the moment his eyes met with hers he felt something something he hadn't felt before. Her soft breaths on his chest gave him goosebumps. She was so vulnerable this way he moved her hair behind her ear. His fingers traced over the small red mark. Its presence still lingered from that afternoon in the gardens. He began to feel the uncontrollable desire to harm her. The same power from within The monster inside him clawing at his skin. But he wouldn't allow himself to indulged he couldn't his fingers twitched noticing the dark mist that now settled in his room. "No!" the pharaoh  shook his head violently trying to regain control slowly making his way to the balcony. His power was growing more and more, and his humanity was getting less and less.

The haze of the morning came, but the sun hadn't quite awoken yet when I opened my heavy eyes blinking to adjust  to the dim room I sat up and took notice the pharaoh was no longer there. My heart raced as I recalled last night.

Is this truly my fate for the next year? I thought to myself

I hugged my knees trying to keep myself from shaking. When I heard a noise from the balcony I leaned forward catching a glimpse of the pharaoh staring out to the city. His eyes seemingly glowed an intense red illuminated like a beacon in the dark.

Sunlight was rare in the city a dark haze seemingly clouded over as the sun moved towards the center of the sky it had been awhile since I caught a glimpse of its warm embrace.

I my eyes moved to the pharaoh. He slammed his fist on the balcony rail in frustration. Quietly he mumbled to himself before leaning his back against the rail his eyes faced the sky a moment before meeting mine brilliant and deep red. I quickly dashed back down squeezing my eyes shut hoping he didn't see me.

"Do you care to watch the sunrise?" His voice broke into the air acrimoniously.

I carefully sat up. He had indeed known I was awake. I slowly moved my feet to the cool marble floors.

"If you wish to see its coming up now.." he turned back towards the city now facing the horizon awaiting the suns longed return

I peeked by the doorway the pharaoh looked irritated,  I hesitated to join him

I cautiously placing my hands on the balcony ledge my stomach was in knots the pharaoh seemed perplexed in thought; not a word broke his lips.

His hands rubbed over his face
"Did you sleep...well?" he mumbled.

I nodded "yes....I did"

The sunrise peeked up in all its splendor I felt a soft bit of relief as it rose reminding me of the freedom I once had. How much I missed the warm rays on my sun kissed skin I took a deep breath taking in all its glory. The city was always shrouded in darkness but as if there was hope the sun would fight through each morning and night.

The pharaohs voice broke that moment
"Tell me..what is it like out there beyond the wall"

I glanced over to where the pharaoh pointed beyond the wall of the city. Where the sunlight splashed across the sand.

"its..beautiful and free, the days are warm and the nights cool..but.." my voice trailed off thinking of the muck that now was the Nile and the lush green lands that now hung in decay. "It seems that whatever plagues this city..now spreads out..its.. its no longer what it once was" I moved away from the balcony discouraged. I didn't want to think of home now.

The pharaohs eyes seemed to trace me. he almost seemed concerned for what I had just said.

"Go and fetch my day clothes it is time to get ready for the day" he directed me back inside
I looked back at the sunrise then to him as he forced my arm leading me inside.
"do as I say when I say" he snapped.

I scoffed under my breath as

I nudged my arm from his forceful grip and made my way to his linens.

The day was quiet as I only heard whispers of other servants no doubt in gossip as I walked the halls with the pharaoh quietly behind him. He hadn't spoken to me since the early hours of the morning. Somehow he was  still seemed deep in his mind from this morning. Curiosity began to creep up. What was on his mind? We finally arrived to the throne room in which the pharaoh flopped down in his gold chair rubbing the bridge of his nose.

"is...is everything alright?" I quietly asked

his eyes met mine as if I had never spoken before

he quickly moved faster then my eyes could perceive pressing his thumb into my jaw like a fish.

his other hand wrapped around my neck my screamed muffled by his fingers in my mouth.

"oh no.. no you don't, my dolt pet. getting too comfortable? shall I rip out your tong?"

his fingers moved gripping my cheeks
"isn't that better? silence."

he released his grip on me walking back to his seat

his sinister smile seemed to fade as he slumped into his chair.

running his hands through his hair

I managed my breath I had started to get used to these outbursts. though he seemed unease and irritated now.

Before i managed to open my mouth again the doors to the palace doors flung open with force as The high priest with his disciples quickly ran in with urgency

"My Pharaoh! I have come with news! the high priest Seto exclaimed waving his finger

"We..We must throw a feast in order to please..." he paused noticing me again his eyes narrowed before tugging on his white tunic "We must have a feast to please what we have angered" his voice strained

The pharaoh rose from his chair glancing at me

"We must discuss things of high importance that no...servant women should have the pleasure of hearing." his eyes fixated on me for a moment before speaking again "return to the your duties I will come for you..we had a deal"

A deal....thats right
