chapter twenty-three!
GAUCHE
"ARE YOU SURE THIS WILL WORK?"The chauffeur worriedly glanced to the rear-view mirror and saw Minji busily writing up a note on a pastel pink and blue memo pad. Daybreak was on the horizon, barely lighting up the town signifying how early they were.
There was an impish smile plastered on her lips, giggling every second or so before frowning and crumpling up the papers. A pile of half-heartedly crushed sheets were now forming a mound by her foot but she couldn't care less about the mess she had made inside the car.
"This is going to work out just fine," She replied, writing up another note with her non-dominant hand. The letters looked like a seven year-old had written it. "And besides, we got everything we need, don't we?"
KAGEYAMA YAWNED twice as heavier and longer than usual.
Morning practices usually weren't such a problem since he was already up and awake early to jog around the block but today was different. He was groggy, ticked-off and held a gloomy atmosphere around him. Students who passed by the raven haired male couldn't help but scramble away, not wanting to be caught up in his miserable state. Even the Karasuno team could tell the boy was too irritable when he was antagonizing poor Hinata for the littlest reasons.
He sighed, opening the shoe locker when a piece of pink paper fell to his feet. A brow raised, he bent down and picked it up, unfolded the piece to see a messily written note on it.
please meet me behind the building
after school.- ♡
He blinked— once, twice.
"What the hell's this supposed to mean..?" He grumbled under his breath, not too amused nor interested at the note received. He was about to crumple it but turned it around instead and found another note written.
p.s this is about volleyball!
so you should definitely come!- ♡
Well, surely enough that caught his attention without a doubt. Rather than discarding the item, he shoved it inside his pockets and switched to his indoor shoes. He barely gave the note any proper thought but if there was his sport in there, then he wouldn't put up a fuss about it.
Kageyama made a turn to proceed to his classroom when he encountered the girl he dreaded but somehow longed to see as well. A head shorter than him, Mina immediately froze when she felt the warmth of her breath reflect against his chest, the distance between them too insignificant. She immediately looked up and saw him staring at her as well.
Mina immediately stepped backwards which brought back the raven haired male's thoughts to present. He as well recoiled, looking a little down with his frown while he rubbed the nape of his neck. Words wanted to spill from his mouth but nothing would come out, still envisioning that image of her and Tsukishima acting weirdly around each other.
He didn't know why his stomach churned like he drank a bad carton of milk, or why something flared up inside of him when she touched the gangly blonde— he didn't know. He really didn't know and it was frustrating; too frustrating.
What the hell was he getting so worked up about?
Kageyama now grew even more upset and turned, only to walk away from the girl who wanted to say something to him. Mina was left behind in the dust, looking confused and dejected.
Like him, she as well didn't know why he was suddenly avoiding her like she was the plague. She didn't even get to give him a morning greeting let alone apologize.
No frowning! She slapped her cheeks, scaring some students who saw her odd move.
Mina was going to talk to him— yes! Confront him for some answers but at the same time...
The girl fished out the blue note she had in her pocket.
"Not everyone has the time to just stand around and block the way like you do," A voice pipes up from behind her. Immediately shoving it in her pockets and turned, there Tsukishima stood with a condescending look towards her. "And you're making my neck hurt. Move over to the side, Booster Seat."
Dumbfounded, she stood there like a frozen icicle while Tsukishima passed by her with a smirk blossoming from his lips.
"Y-You— hah, this kid is out of his mind!" Mina huffed and shouldered her bag aggressively. "Tsukishima-san, y-you are bad boy!"
