it was just another regular day. I could almost predict how this day was going to go. I was going to go down to get breakfast, then go to school and just go threw the day. I also knew for sure that Gaby was going to be clinging to me all day. we are together for so long now that I don't even know anything else. when I went to school just as I predicted Gaby was there waiting for me. ''hey babe'' she said. ''hey Gabs. how was your weekend. did anything special?'' ''no not at all'' she answered really quick and she answered in a weird tone, so I knew there was something going on. ''what is it I know somethings wrong.'' ''no it's nothing, just leave it. okay'' the irritation now evident in her voice. ''what's your first lesson?'' I asked to change the awkward subject. ''oh ehm, I think it was art, you?'' ''ehm I have art to'' ''great we'll sit next to each other right?'' ''yes Gabs why do you still have to ask you know we always sit together.'' ''well I just like to know for sure.'' we walked together and went to class. art class was one of my favorite classes. the teacher was really cool, and let us just do what we want as long as we didn't break anything or talk during the explanation of the assignment. I usually just listened to the explanation and then put my ears in and just listened to music while doing the assignment. that was also my way of avoiding Gaby, because although I liked her and we had been together for so long, during art class was Gaby's time to talk. and I mean really talk. she told you everything she knew and the latest rumors in the school. I figured that when I listened to her I could never concentrate on the assignment and get a good grade, so I just put my ears in and Gaby just talked to someone else. the assignment was drawing your view of how the future would look. Gaby kept on asking during the assignment if she was going in my drawing. I didn't know yet so I just told her that she would see that In the future. she rolled her eyes at that lame joke and went on talking to someone else. I made a drawing of a straight road with a sign pointing forward saying: future. it seemed like a simple thing but because of that every mistake I made would be extra visible. I added some shadows to make it more realistic and then put on the final touches. I chose not to colour it in, because I couldn't possibly know if my future was going to be colorful. I handed in my assignment. ''why is only black and white?'' mr. Swan asked. ''because I don't know if my future will be colorful.'' ''then why is the whole picture black and white, you could split it up so you have one half colorful and the other black and white.'' I nodded my head and went back to my spot to finish it with the tips I got. the teacher really knew what he was talking about. after I finished it, it looked even better. Gaby being Gaby she of course immediately asked why she wasn't in the drawing. I just simply told her that she was in it, she was only far ahead. the answer seemed to satisfy her and she dropped the subject. I handed in my drawing and it was taken with a smile. the bell rang and I quickly cleaned my desk, packed my bag and went out. I went to my locker to change my books. Gaby was changing her own books and after that we usually meet up again. I walk down the hall to go to Gaby's locker. I hear Gaby's voice but it sounds different it's filled with disgust. I can't hear what is said so I walk closer. just my luck Gaby heard me and immediately her voice changed again. ''hey babe'' ''hey, who's that you're talking to.'' ''oh her, she's not important.'' I look at the girl who's panting and leaning against the lockers. it looks like she couldn't stand properly if she didn't have anything to lean on. the girl looks up and the whole world freezes. I feel myself get lost in her eyes, the opposite of mine. dark. stormy. restless. at that moment I knew she wasn't like these other shallow girls at our school. there was so much depth and emotion in her eyes. but at the same time there was no emotion. i'm snapped out of my daze when I see a football whirling through the air headed straight at her. my eyes widen and my feet start moving. with the force the ball as thrown, I knew it would hurt if it hit her. and I knew it would probably hit her. but then her eyes snap to the ball. I see her body tense and I see her fingers flex, like how my fingers flex when I catch a ball. I see her reach up to catch it but then she stops. it's almost like she waited for the ball to hit her. and it did. it smacked the girl in the throat with such force that I heard the impact. the girl's knees buckles and she falls. Gaby starts laughing next to me. ''ha did you see that babe.'' she clings to me. I shake her off, run to the beautiful girl now on the ground and kneel next to her. I was just going to say something when lily comes bursting through the crowd. ''Paris, Paris are you okay?'' apparently the name of the beautiful girl is Paris. I run the beautiful, strange but still perfectly fitting name through my mind. I look down to the girl again and I see her gripping her throat and small choking sounds escaping her beautiful pink plump lips. ''she can't breathe, we have to move her.'' lily says in a panicked voice. ''William'' she asks. ''yeah'' ''will you help me bring her to the school infirmary?'' ''yeah, of course.'' I picked her up bridal style and couldn't help feeling complete, like she belonged there. I then quickly went to the school infirmary. somewhere mid-way the jocks where doing some weird handshake which failed causing them to fall over. I laughed. I felt Paris moving so I looked down. she had a small smile on her lips that she didn't have at first. I quickly went on to get Paris to the school infirmary as soon as possible. I then felt something on my chest. I looked down with concern in my eyes and saw that Paris had her hand on my chest and was trying to make something clear to me. she lifted her hands to her throat but suddenly stopped moving. she fell limp in my arms and stopped moving. she passed out due to the lack of oxygen. now I really had to be quick, because if I didn't hurry it would only get worse. I ran the rest of the way leaving lily behind me. I soon arrived at the school infirmary. a nurse immediately came. ''oh dear what happened.'' ''a football hit her throat'' lily said who just came in. ''she passed out like a minute ago.'' I placed her on one of the beds and stepped aside so the nurses could do their job. ''thanks William you can go now, I know my sister is probably waiting for you.'' lily said. ''no I'm staying here.'' I said. one of the nurses was checking Paris's throat. ''oh goodness. poor child.'' ''what is it.'' I immediately asked. ''how can someone's throat be so delicate?'' the nurse mumbled in herself. ''she has had a lot of surgeries on her throat could that be it?'' lily said. surgeries? I immediately thought, but I didn't have much time to think because the nurse spoke again. ''oh yes that's definitely it.'' ''so what is it?'' I asked to get some answers. "well she can't breathe because her throat is sensitive to.. well. everything. there's scars lacing the inside of her throat and some faint scars on the outside too.'' the nurse said. ''yeah she can't talk. she hasn't spoken a word to anyone since we started fostering her.'' lily said to the nurse. ''is she going to be okay?'' I asked still not seeing any improvement after another nurse got one of those things they use in hospitals when people start flatlining. the nurse called one of the other nurses over. ''call an ambulance she's not responding.'' those words made my heart sink in my shoes. A few minutes later an ambulance appeared. They came very fast, which was good because Paris had been out for quite a long time now. I wanted to come to the hospital but I wasnt allowed. So the rest of the day I kept thinking about Paris nd how she would be doing. the day slowly passed by and I couldnt focus at all. Finally the day was done and I went home trying to get Paris out of my head.
