Cookie Cats (Steven x Male!Reader)

Part 1:Rainbows and lions

Soft rain pattered down the sides of the Temple's windows. Steven was bored. Connie had moved, Homeworld held no threat against the Crystal Gems, there were no missions to go on, and Pearl, Amethyst and Garnet were out grocery shopping. It sounded strange to say in his head, but Steven wished that there was some sort of replacement for Connie coming soon, because Beach City really sucked without her. Sure, he was still in touch with Connie, but it wasn't the same. Plus she was too busy watching 'Under the Knife' to pick up the phone.

A low grumble from his stomach snapped Steven from out of his mundane daydreaming. So, as any logical person would do, he decided to go to the Big Donut to... well... get a donut. "Lion!" He called sweetly, causing a pink lion to appear at the doorway. He hopped on it's back, and rode off in the grey-ish rain. Walking across the street, Steven saw a pair of luminous lights in the distance, almost like lanterns. Were those... car lights?

Now, to most people, seeing a car would be completely normal, but in Beach City everyone knew eachother since it was such a small town, meaning that mostly, the only "car" people would see would be Greg's van, which is also probably why Greg's carwash was a bad buisness idea. Anyway, seeing cars out and about now was such a rarity, that you would probably see only about four or five a day, at a push. It's not like no one owned a car in Beach City, it was more that no one could be bothered to use them when everything was around a five minute walk from place to place. The only significant cars that everyone recognised was Mayor Dewey's old van, which was broken by the way, Greg's van (as said before), Sourcream and the gang's old pizza delivery car, Kevin's super swell sports car, and that one bus that drove people in and out of town. That's five so far, which is way less than, let's say, a bigger state, like Keystone. Normally, when a new car arrived in the town, everyone crowded around it like it was some sort of obscure Homeworld spaceship, because it either meant they were coming into Beach City or leaving it (like Connie's car, for example).

So when Steven saw a shiny black limo smoothly skid down the main road, he was a little suprised- not:"Oh my gosh Jasper's actually still trying to kill me" suprised- but suprised none the less. He wanted to tell everyone, but then decided against it, since it might disturb whoever was in there, and Steven knew full well how aggrivating the people of Beach City could be, especially as he'd got older these last few years.

"Maybe it's- no, it can't be her... she would've told me if she was coming back." Steven thought mentally, hope disappearing as quickly as it had come. The glistening black door opened, letting out some dramatic steam. Steven couldn't tell if it was intentional or not. Two dark figures stepped out, one opening a large umbrella and handing it to the other, slightly shorter figure. The smaller person made a pushing gesture, almost as if he didn't want it. The car veered away relatively quickly. The taller stature was desperately pushing the umbrella to the smaller one- Steven saw there may be some sort of disagreement occuring, so, he did what he did best- tried to talk things through. With strangers. That were nothing to do with him. Yeah... common sense doesn't always apply when you used to fight corrupted gems with three (well, technically four) practically alien sidekicks as your day job.

"Uhhh... excuse me, but are you two okay? You seem knew to this town and it looked like you were about to get into a fight, so I just wanted to check if everything's alright."

Just as Steven finished his incredibly akward greeting, the sun shone threw the now-fluffy clouds, lifting the hard-hitting rain to a soft drizzle as the faces of the two bodies were revealed, water dampening their blazers as the sky showed a bright, vivid rush of colours. A rainbow. Sure, it's cliche, but what do you expect?- it's a cheesy Wattpad fanfiction.
