"Alright class that's if for today. And let's all give Ms. Atkinson a round of applause for arriving on time today." Fucking dick. I saw Callie turnaround from her seat and give me a little smirk. I just gave her a dirty look as she shook her head at me and her somewhat short brown hair got in her face. The rest of the class proceeded to clap their hands and laugh.
"He hates me." I complained as Callie and I walked out of the class room.
"Yeah he might." Callie laughed.
"Shut up."
"Hey so I missed you at the party the other night."
"Oh yeah sorry I passed out on the couch so Sara said we could just stay in."
"That's okay. Do you want to go to the gym and shoot around?" We don't have practice today, but the gym is open. Bennet said we did decent at the scrimmage yesterday so she wasn't going to make us work out today. Also, it's a Friday and I think she just didn't want to have to deal with us. Fine by me.
"Yeah let me see what Sara's doing first though. She doesn't have class today." Callie nodded as I pulled my phone out of my back pocket and started dialing. I looked at my watch. 2:00, Sara should just be at home. It only took about two rings for Sara to answer.
"Hey baby what's up?"
"I was going to see what you were doing. Callie and I might go shoot around at the gym do you want me to pick you up?" Sara just made a mmm noise through the phone, like she was debating.
"I want to but my shoulders hurting. I think it's going to rain later. I'll just go over to Presley's. She was going to have a couple people over to hang out."
"Oh, okay well have fun. I'll call you when I'm out."
"Come by Presley's, Alex is going to pick me up, so you can take me home, sound good?"
"Yeah sounds good. I'll see you a bit later." I hung up the phone and put it back in my pocket then sighed.
"What?" Callie questioned.
"Nothing." I don't know Callie very well and I don't like getting close to new people. Sara's the only person I trust.
"Okay well hurry up and let's get to the gym." When we got to the gym Michelle and Dillon were in the gym already shooting around. I went to the locker room and changed into my basketball clothes. I always keep a spare bag of clothes in my car in case I forget something. When I got out Callie and the other girls were playing queen of the court. After Dillon won, because she's taller than all of us by a foot, we decided to play 2 on 2. It was me and Michelle against Callie and Dillon. Callie was guarding me and Michelle was guarding Dillon. Michelle was our tallest guard; she's like 5'6.
I checked the ball in at the top of the key with Callie. The way she was guarding me was weird. She wasn't close enough to me to block a shot, but she wasn't far enough away for me to shoot. She was basically perpendicular to me. She had her left foot forward and her right foot back. She's trying to drive me left. I passed the ball between my legs as if I was going to drive in right but I didn't bounce the ball. I just switched hands under my legs. Callie went right just a little but enough. I then brought the ball up as if I was going to shoot. Callie, thinking she was falling behind jumped in the air to block the shot. I drove in right past her to my right and then passed the ball behind me back to Michelle because Dillon was coming at me to block my shot. Michelle took one dribble then shot the ball off the backboard. I turned around, faced Callie and smiled.
"Okay whatever Avery." Hearing her say my full name was weird. Don't ask me why but it was.
Callie went to the top of the key and checked it to me. She had this little grin on her face that made me laugh. We play about four of five games. We switched up the teams every game or so. I won 3 of those game, well me and whoever was on my team. At 3:45ish Dillon and Michelle said they had to leave because they had a study group or something like that. I walked over to the bleachers and pulled my phone out of my backpack. Callie was still shooting, so I decided to call Sara. The thought made me happy. She answered on the first ring.
"Hey Ave how's shooting going?"
"It's good. Michelle and Dillon were here so Callie and I were playing 2 on 2 with them. You should have seen it. I totally faked out Callie and drove in, then I had this awesome behind he back pass and Michelle made it off the backboard it was awesome."
"Hahaha good job babe." She laughed. "What about shooting? How's that been?"
"It's okay. I feel like I've gotten stronger so I keep over shooting it or undershooting it, but its right on. I'll figure it out."
"Well that's good. I have to go though, Eric is going on and on about some art project thing I don't know."
"Okay I'll see you later. Love you."
"I love you too Ave." I put my phone back in my bag and walked over to Callie who was about to shoot the ball. I ran up and slapped the ball out of the air and grabbed it.
"You should pay more attention."
"Shut up Avery." Again with the full name.
"You know you can just call me Ave. Everyone else does."
"Mmm I think I'll stick with Avery." I rolled my eyes and shot the ball, it went in with a nice little swish. I watched it fall to the ground and Callie went after the ball. I wish Sara was here playing with me.
-----------------------------------
After Callie and I got done shooting around at the gym it was already 5 something. I went back to the locker room to change out of my sweaty clothes. Since I'm going to Presley's I already know that I'm not going to get home till a lot later, so I went into the showers to rinse off. There's a closet in the showers that has a lot of extra towels and what not. I grabbed one then got in the shower. I closed the curtain, took my clothes off then turned the water on. It was cold at first but it quickly warmed up. When I was done I grabbed my towel off the hook I had hung it on and wrapped myself in it then put my clothes on while I was still in the shower. I walked out of the shower and back into the locker room. I was trying to dry my hair a bit with the towel when I saw that Callie was still sitting on the bench. I thought she'd have left already.
"Hey you want to go get something to eat?"
"I can't I have to go over to Sara's friend's place. You can come if you want. There's probably food there."
"Yeah okay." I ran my fingers through my wet hair and grabbed my bag from the bench. I then pulled out my phone and text Sara that Callie was coming too. Sara just sent me a little thumbs up emoji.
"Do you tell her every time you go to the bathroom too?" Callie asked laughing.
"Shut up." I laughed and so did Callie. I tell Sara everything I do. Not because she doesn't trust me but because I know she'll worry if I just drop off the face of the earth. I also tell her because I love her. Plus, if I show up with Callie and don't give a warning and Sara's been drinking that won't end well for anyone. We'll see how this goes.
