"Oh, come on!" I screamed. This game is bullshit. I'm stuck on the bench the entire game because I'm still having headaches. Granted it's Tuesday and I hit my head last Friday. I was running my hands through my hair trying not to pull it out. I'm still out for the rest of this week because of my concussion. Bennet let me dress out and sit the bench, but this was just slow torture. The refs fucking suck. They called a charge on us when Michelle was running down the sideline with the defense running with her. What kind of bullshit is that? These refs are fucking idiots and I wanted to scream. They weren't calling any fouls on the other team and our girls were getting pushed around.
"Alright ladies as you've already seen we aren't going to get any help from these damn refs. Keep your heads up though. We're still ahead even with all their shit calls. Dillon fight for the rebounds. I know the little ones are all over you but keep it up high. Michelle, Callie keep moving and don't give them any reason to give a foul. I know they're beating you guys up but don't let them get to you." Bennet was telling us all this at a timeout during the third quarter. Callie had her hands on her hips and she wouldn't look up, she was staring at the ground. She's pissed. The girl she's on has been beating her up down at the box before she would break out. When the buzzard rang Callie looked up at me for just a second but I could see the look in her eyes. They were terrifying. Before she walked onto the court I pulled her jersey and made her face me.
"Whatever you're thinking, don't." My voice was stern and low. She gave me a look and ran back onto the court. I walked back to my spot on the bench with Bennet eyeing me the whole time. I looked back into the stands to see Sara giving me a worried look. I returned the worried look and ran my hand through my hair. Sara mouthed to me "Watch her." And I just nodded my head. The third quarter ended about 3 minutes later and when our girls came off the court they were burning. I think steam was actually coming off of Callie. I could see where the girl had actually scratched her arm, and she had some bruises already forming on her arms. Bennet was talking to them trying to calm them down, get them to realize that we are ahead and that all the other shit doesn't matter. They weren't hearing it though. If I were on the court I probably would have been ejected by now. This is a bullshit game. Bennet talked to the girls but like I said they weren't listening.
This is so bad. This is so so bad. The other team isn't going to win. Despite the theirs and the ref's best efforts we are still ahead by 15 points and there's no way they're coming back with 4 minutes left on the clock.
I watched as Callie played defense on their point guard, the one being a bitch. Callie was playing good defense. She was trying to drive the girl left like she had been all night. This girl can't use her left hand for shit, and everyone knew it. Every time she tried to go left she'd end up turning the ball over. The girl started in going right but did a reverse spin move and went left. Michelle who was right behind Callie hit the ball out of the girl's hand. Callie picked the ball up and started dribbling back towards our basket. She was dribbling left handed down the sideline when the point came out of nowhere and trucked Callie out of bounds. Callie fell to the ground and slid/rolled right in front of me. Oh shit. Within seconds she was on her feet and about to charge at the girl who was walking off like nothing happened. I ran off of me seat and pulled Callie by the waist and back onto the sideline.
"Avery let me go!"
"Get your ass off the court dammit!" I was trying to pull her back still. All of this happened within seconds and by the time I had Callie back at the sideline the ref was blowing the whistle saying that Callie touched the ball last and that it was the other team's ball. As soon as Callie heard that she screamed
"Are you fucking kidding me?" Bennet was already in the ref's face screaming at him that that call was bullshit. The entire gym was screaming saying that it was bullshit.
"Back to your bench coach! Before I give you a technical." the ref yelled at Bennet. Bennet didn't listen though and stayed there yelling at him. He blew his whistle and did the tech sign with his hands. The stands were really loud now. I could feel the whole gym vibrating because of the noise. I was still holding onto Callie who was fighting me. I spun us around and practically threw her on the bench.
"Don't fucking move." I said. She glared at me but did as I said. The rest of us were standing around waiting for what was going to happen next. Bennet subbed in Wilson for Callie and the other team lined up their shooter for the free throws. As she went to shoot we all huddled around Bennet.
"We have two minutes left in this game an we're ahead by over 10 points. These refs are fucking terrible." She sort of yelled this last part in an effort to be heard by the shitty refs.
"I know you're all pissed. I'm pissed, but don't you dare go onto that court and do something stupid. We are going to finish this game with class. I don't care if they push you, hit you, or even throw you on the ground. You get up and you keep playing our game. Do you understand me?" Everyone just nodded their heads in unison. The girl only made 1 of the free throws. I sat down next Callie on the bench and watched the game unfold. Callie wouldn't look at me. She started straight head with her arms crossed. I'd be pissed too. Hell I am pissed, but there's nothing I can do about it.
Since it was a tech they got the ball. The girls set up on defense, they were running a 2-3 zone since the other team sucked. As their point, the mega-bitch, dribbled down the court she had this coy smile on her face. It pissed me off. Since Michelle and Wilson were on top, Wilsons her last name by the way, they weren't playing very hard defense. Bennet told them not to start anything. The girl went in between them and went in for a layup, but when she did Dillon came out of nowhere and slapped the ball all the way to half court and the girl went crashing down on her back. The refs didn't call shit, so Michelle was already on the other side of the court making a layup. The stupid girl laid on the ground and started crying. Pussy. They had to stop the game with a minute left on the clock to make sure she was okay, and get her off the court. The last minute of the game was irrelevant. They tried to score, we didn't let them. We scored, they couldn't stop us.
When it was all said and done we were doing the high five thing and saying good game. I was walking behind Callie just to make sure she didn't start anything. When we passed their point guard she put her hand down and looked away from Callie and totally ignored her, then gave me a high five. I gave her such a dirty look that she looked away from me as soon as we made eye contact. When we got back to the locker room Bennet and the whole team were giving off the most hostile energy. I sat on the bench next to Callie and stared at my shoes.
"That was a shit game." Bennet said honestly.
"But, I'm proud of you for holding your composure. Callie you did a good job of that. Dillon, well you kept it in the game I guess." At this we all started laughing a bit. In my head I was just thinking of the fact that Callie didn't hold her composure for shit. She was ready to truck the girl, but Bennet was already on the court yelling at the ref. When Bennet was done with her rant about everything we all got our shit and changed. Callie was unusually quiet. I walked out of the locker room with my things and saw Sara standing in the hallway with her back against the wall. She looked beautiful. I walked up and smiled at her.
"That was fucking bullshit!" She whisper screamed. I just gave her a hug and laughed. I felt her pull away from me and start walking. I was so lost. I turned around and saw her running after Callie. What the hell? I walked up and put my arm around Sara.
"You sure you're okay?"
"Yeah I'm just pissed off."
"Yeah I know. I'm the one who got beat up trying to keep you off the court." I smiled. Callie looked up at the ceiling and rolled her eyes. I ran my hand through my hair.
"Come on let's get out of here." Sara said.
"Callie you're coming with us." Callie gave me a confused look. I just shrugged my shoulders and said
"I never know what she's thinking. My first thought was arson."
