That Broken Thermostat

It's the hotel's thermostat that caused all this to happen.

And no, it did not turn into an eight legged villain that tried to win against the Avengers in battle. Nope.

What used to be a secret, but now the Avengers know, Tony's arc reactor causes some problems. It isn't just a flat piece on the outside of his chest, no sir. It is three and a half inches in his chest and causes problems. Especially in cold and hot temperatures.

To put in simple terms:

Cold = Drowsey Tony

Hot = Feverish Tony

So, that stupid thermostat was broken and this happened:

4:32 A.M.

In a hotel in Flordia....

Tony's chest felt numb and his body was shaking, but he felt so hot. So, he kicked the covers away from him before falling into a restless sleep once again....

"Why is it so cold?" Clint asked no one specific, pulling on his jacket. Four of the six Avengers (Thor was off-world and Tony was apparently sleeping).

Bruce rubbed his chin from where he was crouched in front of the thermostat, the face off of it. The wires were a mess. "I don't know... everything looks so... confusing." He rubbed his eyes. Natasha, curled up on the couch, yawned into her sweater sleeve.

"Can you fix it?" Steve asked, standing in the corner of the room, wearing probably three shirts and two pairs of sweatpants. He hated the cold with a passion.

"No, engineering isn't my field. And I don't want to wake up Tony when he's actually getting some sleep." Bruce squinted once more at the wires after cleaning his glasses, then his eyes widened.

"Did Tony put on his tempature suit? It's 15 degrees below what he should be in." The doctor asked. Everyone went rigid for a moment.

Yes, they all knew what happened to Tony when tempatures dropped too much or rose too high.

"He probably put it on when he realized the tempatures had gone down," Natasha said.

"But it wouldn't be like him to not come and figure out why."

"Maybe he put it on while half-asleep?" Steve suggested.

Bruce cleaned his glasses, looking anxious. "One of us should probably still check on him."

"I'll go!" Clint volunteered, jumping up and jogging down the hall to Tony's room. He knocked on the door lightly, then with a little more force when he got no answer.

"Tones? You awake? I'm coming in." Clint said and opened the door. His blood ran cold at the sight of a sleeping, shivering, Tony Stark. Dressed in only jogging pants and a tank top, he was bound to be freezing. And with the Arc Reactor metal.....

The archer nearly tripped over himself trying to get to the genius, calling for the others to get Tony's blanket. He sat down on the bed, unzipped his jacket, and pulled the smaller man up into his arms, trying to share his body heat. Natasha ran in and took off her beanie, tucking it securely over Tony's head as 70%(?) of body heat went out through the head.

Bruce came in with Steve behind him, the super soldier carrying the special blanket. Natasha and Clint spread the blanket over the brunette as the archer and Steve had switched places as Steve gave off more heat.

It might've looked strange to anyone outside of the Avengers circle: five Avengers piled into a small hotel bed, a pale, shivering brunette genius in the middle of it all. But the Avengers would do anything to protect their own. They had each other's backs, forever and always.

Tony eventually stopped shaking as his tempature was righted and went slack in their arms. Quiet snores soon filled the room and the tense atmosphere faded away. The Avengers fell asleep, one by one, in a dog pile, completely relaxed.

Later, after Natasha stopped fussing over Tony and everyone making sure the genius had his tempature outfit on, the Avengers would notice that the thermostat was fixed. And they knew exactly who had done it.

They let Tony pick the movie for team bonding night in a silent thank you.
